Perhaps there should be a requirement that a home owner weighs the intruder before protecting themselves. There should also be a clause about the intruder being a "chick." She's cute too, that should probably be considered by the law as well.

She shows up while they are sleeping and refuses to stop coming towards them even when warned that they have a gun and will use it. The law doesn't require them to check her age and sobriety so your mentioning that she was just a drunk 21 year old holds no merit.

No such requirements exist in Colorado unless one is getting a concealed carry permit. A carry permit is not needed in one's home and would not have come into play in this instance.

Technically what she did is a felony but I agree that including the value of the home was irrelevant.
Perhaps breaking into a less expensive home would be a misdemeanor.

Tragic what happened to this girl; sounds like an accident on her part. But she didn't get shot because the homeowners are gun nuts, she got shot because she was in their house 3:30 am and didn't leave when she had a chance. And so far, I haven't read any gloating in the story or comments.
