There is, in general, a sentiment that if one doesn't want to be responsible, one can just shake off one's obligations. The bonds of marriage are no longer sacred. Corporations no longer feel a need to pay their debts. Everyone wants health care for free. There is some holy scripture that says oil is supposed to be cheap. Most importantly, police officers, judges, prosecutors and teachers are supposed to work for free.

All I can say is I'm no indentured servant. I am no union employee. I have no employment contract. I have worked. I have played fair. I have delayed gratification. I have been paid with low wages and a promise of a minimal pension. Maybe the public will take the low road and default like a bankrupt, drunken dead beat. So be it. I know the criminal law better than everyone else. I will get mine. It may not be in line with "the public interest," but at that point, I'll no longer give a damn about the public.

Somehow, I think I am held in less regard by the public than the families of the gang-bangers I've put away for life. At least I have their respect.

I am a prosecutor. There are a few laws all of you would agree need to be prosecuted. I make substantially less than my peers in the criminal defense bar. I know that in advance. In return, I get a pension. State law requires that I not work outside my duties as a prosecutor. I don't get overtime.

So I have made plans. The little (in comparison to the private sector) that I make I spend to cover my necessities and those of my children. My wife will go back to work once my kids are all in school. Hopefully, at that point, I'll have enough discretionary income to enjoy all of the frivolities the general public has enjoyed for the last ten years.

My State entered into an obligation when it and I agreed to do business. I will not accept that the State cannot fulfill its obligation to me. It owns property, it has a stream of income and will not always be in the dire straights that it finds itself in now. The Great Unwashed public can blame me (a public employee) for the fix that we are in. I do not accept responsibility. The public has allowed the State to degenerate. The public is at fault. I will not allow the fix to come at my expense alone.

When the public (the State) fails to uphold its obligations to me, I will no longer uphold my obligations to it.

Does he think we all have terrible grammar and that the government is involved in mind control?

Who are his parents? I'd like to see their take on what they brought into the world.

Exactly right. Two Foundings. Both True Believers risking their lives for what they thought was right. One based on limited federal government (Washington) and the second on an unlimited federal government (Lincoln). Exactly right. We owe our existence to these two men.

76 weeks ago @ Big Government - Lincoln the 'Tyrant': ... · 1 reply · -4 points

Lincoln was no "tyrant." He was a great President, on par with the Founding Fathers. But his founding was wholly separate from the kind of the original founding. We were a nation created and subject to a Constitution, that is an un-coerced agreement as to the relationship and Separation of Powers between the States and the Union. Lincoln ignored that and set us on the road to imperialism. He dismissed the democratic principles of the secessionists. Each State had open elections on whether to sever ties with the Union. He ignored those and by military conquest coerced the inhabitants of the southern states. Surely the South was equally immoral in its treatment of Africans, but that immorality was sanctioned by the North in its compromise with the South in the ratification of the Constitution. Thus, neither side can claim moral superiority. If the North was so superior, why did it wait until the middle of the war to free the slaves in the Southern States? Why didn't the Union free the slaves in the Union border States? Its because slavery was an ancillary, but strategic issue. Important but ancillary. The war was fought because Northern industrial interests and Southern agrarian interests, apart and separate from simple slavery, were irreconcilable. Business and its hurried pace with gadgets and gizmos prevailed over close knit familial, rural ways of life. So, speaking from a modern American viewpoint, Lincoln was no tyrant. We are first among nation states because of him. However, from the viewpoint of a man who would seek to live a simple life, unconnected with a New World Order, Lincoln was a tyrant, even though he ended the blight of slavery. Tyrants get some things right, you know.

I agree with him on the point that the old farts are greedy. I have paid and will continue to pay but have no expectation of future benefits. This is a welfare program and needs to be treated like one. If we want to drop it completely I'm game but I doubt everyone else is. So I'll stand with Simpson on his point, you baby boomers are the greediest generation. Any generation defined by birth control, abortion, mind altering drugs and an explosion of the size of the government needs to be set afloat on an ice raft from Palin's Alaska.

Again I say, "Don't Put your Hands on my Junk."

I am shamelessly self promoting my new tune "Don't Put your Hand on my Junk." If you smile, share it with your buddies and tell them to share it too.

Thanks.
