I disagree with #7. In fact, I'd say that seven is just plain false. Either the facts are from you or from someone else, and it should be indicated either way. There is no problem using "I" or "we" if used properly. After all, the facts are not defending your thesis, you are. Either the facts come from other people or, "I/We have found..." or perhaps, "Given the [preponderance of the data, textual support, whatever], I/we believe that it is safe to assert that..."
