Are u kidding? It prevents ISPs who are slowly entering the world of content distribution from being able to prevent the use of competing applications and services on their networks.

Whats to say that Comcast, for example, decides to create a pay VOD service and then subsequently decides to block Netflix?

That govt control argument is utter nonsense. The govt says nothing but that ISPs cant block people from using applications and services of their choosing.

Dont want network neutrality? Then first demand real ISP competition.

Whats sad too is that these developing countries, usually bastions of official corruption, are the only ones demanding honest, untainted piracy figures.

Kind of sad western govts dont expect the same.

Brazil also criticizes the fact that western companies swoop in and collect their genetic resources, ie from plants and animals in the amazon, and then patent it, preventing them from benefiting from products created from resources in their own country!

Exactly. It has everything to do with copyright holders and nothing to do with consumers.

"enforcing it as much as they can" is precisely why the music industry has "self-destructed." It doesnt care about giving consumers what they want.

? If you're trying to lure customers away from a system like P2P where content is free and copyright holders dont see a dime, why would you try and convince them to pay for an inferior product?

DRM is all about control, and consumers are rightly angry that they are being asked to pay for a product that they never truly own, not to mention the fact that they are also being told when and how they can play purchased music.

Its indefensible, especially when again, you're trying to convince people to acquire music legally. Why would they want all the hassle?

No single thing has killed the music industry. DRM is simply part of its pattern of ignoring consumers.

Also, DRM for TV shows and movies is not even part of the conversation here, but that too is why people turn to illegal file-sharing for content.

Exactly. The only way to fight P2P is to inspect each and every data packet. If I have to choose between totalitarianism and protecting entertainment industry profits I'll pick liberty every time.
