These are great questions for all sorts of jobs. I remember being paged DURING the midnight premiere of Star Wars Episode I, of all things, and having to drive from Almeda to Greenspoint in Houston to respond... Ugh!

This is quite a modest proposal! Perhaps we should just allow all of the positions to be auctioned off and let market forces create a proper balance of power? Or did Alan Greenspan already shoot down that idea with his pronouncement that market-driven systems protect neither the interests involved or the public good?

I would be all for a system where we elect congresspeople who know what they are doing, however. Enough with the "like us" form of government. I want a government by thoughtful experts! We deserve hearings that are actual hearings and debates that are actual debates (that is, they involve discussion and listening).

To say that Democrats, Republicans, Fannie, Freddie, or Mr. Greenspan caused the current crisis is like saying McDonald's made us all fat. There is some truth to it, but it misses the larger truth that many forces conspired to get us to where we are. Hard problems need well thought out solutions, and there seems to be a shortage of those right now!
