Driving around Santa Clara, Sunnyvale, Mountain View, etc. last week on a tour of silicon valley and noticed that 30+% of the office parks were completely empty. No cars in the parking lots, no lights on inside...

Good point - the US data is definitely not both cars and light trucks. They're usually split pretty evenly. It's probably just cars.

But is the Chinese data cars only as well (apples to apples)? How much of their vehicle sales would be light truck though?

Has it gotten that much worse? I'm moving up to the bay area (Berkeley) in a few months. Right now I practically live in my car in LA and can't wait to get rid of it... Apparently I've romanticized the idea of bay area public transport.
