Thanks for these sane comments. BSL laws are overly reactionary due to the media always highlighting dog attacks by pit bulls and other "agressive" breeds. I wished that I could remember, but recently here in the states, a Lab actually killed a baby. Should we BSL Labs? Your point is well thought out and reasonable. IT IS THE OWNERS that are responsible for bad dogs not matter the breed!

Well, I did not think that I would get into a debate on what we in the United States have done in our history. But I suppose I started it with the analogy.
Yes, the American treatment of Blacks (sorry, I don't use the term African-American because most Blacks have been here longer than my family. And we don't use the term NEGRO at all!) was and is still a terrible thing. However, slavery was not invented in the United States. And slavery DOES exist in the world today. And the Indians, we treated them WORSE than Blacks. The whole tribal system does ring of an apartheid-like system.
As far as making sure that a potential dog owner is suitable to becoming a dog owner, if one gets their dog through my local humane society, they are put through a lot of tests such as where they live. If they totally understand what it means to be a dog owner, etc. So yes, I think it is important to make sure that potential dog owners ARE qualified to be so.

I am only sorry if it offends people. But not WHAT I said. Look, the same idiot that condemned all the people you mentioned was a dog lover. Supposedly. I think that it is wrong to say that a whole breed of dogs are so dangerous that they have to be banned and or put down. Look at the dogs that the American football player, Michael Vick, was using in dog fights. I believe that almost all if not rehabilitated are in no-kill shelters. Now THOSE dogs would have been the type to put down, but they were not. We need to crack down on the owners that are abusers more than the dog.

I am not interested in boycotting Belfast or NI. BUT, what I want to know is why this had to be done when there were other options that could have spared Lennox' life? People were willing to take him OUT of NI and put him in a place where he would not be a potential danger to others. And I do have a problem banning whole dog breeds based on faulty info. Look, a pit bull WILL be a danger if T R A I N E D that way. If not it will not be any more a danger than any other breed. ANY dog can be a danger if not trained properly. It is the total responsilbility of the dog owner to make sure that a dog is trained so that they are NOT a danger to themsleves, other dogs and most important to other people. BTW, sorry with the analogy, but did not a government in our lifetimes look to a certain group of people as so bad they had to be put down? I believe that nation was Nazi Germany. Or more recently, South Africa and apartheid. No, they did not kill Blacks, but the White-only government thought that they were less than human. Sort of like what happened here.
