You can also shop a the tax free va store when you are there, so why in heck should you get to use my retiree benefit too.. Use the VA, and leave my benefits alone....you didn't earn the right to shop on base if you did not retiree... and I don't care if your rated 100% or tdiu by the va, if you didn't retire from the military, you should not ever be able to shop on post....

Here we go again... civilians who likely never served a day.. want to give away another one of my retiree benefits. Sure why not they have been trying to give away space available travel to non-retiree's, next what will it be Tricare... Oh.. that's right they already created VA-Champus for veterans families. This will do nothing to lower prices, all it does is create more of a profit for the AAFES monopoly. Look all veteran already have access to the VA stores, let them use the va mail order too...and STOP GIVING AWAY RETIREE BENEFITS, Its not the greatest benefit, but it is an active duty and retiree benefit and should remain so....

I've been dealing with the VA for over 25 years. First this is nothing new this problem has existed for years. Recently I relocated to Killeen Texas, and it took over 5 months to get a primary care appointment in Temple Texas, , just to find out that even to this day I don't have a assigned primary care doctor.
As to fee basis care, that is to go outside the system to get medical care that the VA will pay for. This is nothing new. A few times in the last 25 years I was given the fee basis card to see a private doctor, but the VA usually limits you on the number of doctor visits, or to a specific time frame. Fee basis care is already in law, the VA just doesn't want to authorize it.Would I like private care over VA care? It would depend on the care that I might need. I have learned never to trust the VA to do surgeries, or to get admitted to a VA Hospital. Thankfully, I am retired Army, and have Tricare for life, as well as Medicare so my choices are limitless.

Sorry to hear of your hear problems. You will be in our prayers......

On a side note, VA Watchdog has become a staple in many of our lives, have you considered selling the cite to another person who may be able to maintain it.? This is the one cite that combined veterans information and issues without the political slant. The only one who wins with the loss of VA watchdog is the Veterans Affairs.

God be with you and yours.

Another ignorant statement. Sure all sectors of health care have problems no one is saying otherwise, what we are saying is depending where you go
va medical care may not be the best of care. As to medical suits, the va has their share too, in fact I have a 1151 claim and federal tort claim in the works right now, ( becasue the va screwed up
my eye surgery) The problem is you just don't hear about them as much because the US government plays by different rules than the private sector. Numbers may be miniscule to you if
your not included in the numbers, but If your are included then the numbers are large. You think because a veteran speaks out he should be denied benefits, and medical care
what is wrong with you this is American and remember veterans fought for the right to free speach... didn't you? Like I said another ignorant statement.

Technically your wrong the Commander of the DAV is a Job, and make no mistake it is political. If he does not toe the DAV political line he is out. Just because he is not paid, doesn't mean it is not a job,
so get your facts straight! We were mpromised adaquate health care, and if the va can't provide it we must go else where. Haven't you read anything about the infections caused at va medical centers, because items
are not clean correctly? Haven't you heard about the vet turned away from the va and dies of a heatt attack.. Where are you hiding? You don't have far to look the stories are even on here from time to time. nAlso, just
because you might get good va health care where you go, doesn't mean the va has an excellent health care system, it means your lucky and some of us are not so lucky. Perhaps, you need to listen to what others
say before you insult them with names...... or are you the type of person that thinks he knows it all and everybody elswe is stupid... sure seems that way.

I know Tyson, from my time as a service officer in Fayetteville NC. He didn't know what he was talking about then and he doesn't know what he is talking about now.
He like the many past commanders of the DAV, only speak DAV.. that is he is looking our for his job and playing politics and that is all.
We already have hundreds of Thousands of veterans utilizing the Private sector for medical care. And in many cases the care is much better that the va could ever offer.
Myself, I have multuiple problems, and I use private doctors all the time,, for a couple of reason. The main reason is I don't want some young student telling me what is wrong
with me or operating on me.. playing that game already cost me one eye.....
So Tyson, as tne national commander As far as I am concerned you don't represent me. Speak for yourself.
I wish the va wouid give me a fee basis card for everything I would be one healthy and happy camper...

I used a chiropractor once.. They are quacks... Most don't use xrays, or ct scans, then try to bend your body into shapes that are not normal. And make matter worse.
One machine they used on me was a roller, that acually rolled up and down my back,, this was suppost to help?
So now all VA's might get a chiropractor. Why should that surprise us, the va waste money all the time, but as long as Filner is getting his who gives a darn.
