Pat, sometimes I wonder if technology is the worst thing to happen to our profession.

I think what you experienced was very unusual, yet it does change the perspective a little bit for me. I was coming from the viewpoint of a church having it's main worship service at 11:00 AM on Sunday morning, but didn't think about churches who have their main service time on Sunday evenings. I know a couple of churches in the area who meet at 5:00 PM as well.

In your case, I think the pastor and worship leaders were a little bit out of line on this one. If your regular worship service starts at 5:00 PM, then the leaders need to make that a priority (and TiVo anything they may want to watch during that time). What bugs me more about this is that they passed it off as having a prayer time because you "don't pray enough as a church." It's almost like they didn't want to take any responsibility for their actions of putting a hockey game over worship.

From reading your story, I don't think you're a legalist at all. If your pastor wanted to watch the game live he should have informed you well ahead of time that the service would be moved to 6:00 PM or another time altogether. In my opinion, he should have recorded it and watched it later.

If you don't mind me asking, where are you located?

True. I think the show has run it's course. Other than Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood, I can't think of anything noteworthy that has come from the show. Simon leaving might just be the last breath. I never watched the show because I cannot stand to hear anyone sing out of tune, which is pretty much what you get for the first few episodes.

You could also add The Bachelor / Bachelorette to that list. Any show that has over a 95% failure rate in it's intentions just needs to stop.

Yeah. Spence and I went to school together at Campbell, and I've been doing some work for him on the side. We worked with him as far as what we wanted the site to be able to do. He did the design and set up the product database, and I worked on moving all the content off of our old site on th this one, along with editing everything in the product database.
