@Alex Yeah Dark Time looks cool. 16 steps not too pricey. Other manufacturers ended up showing new analog sequencers at NAMM as well. Most notable in my mind, the TipTop Z8000, & Make Noise - "Rene" sequencer both of which are cross matrix sequencers that are a grid that can run in any direction. I am on the fence with my future modular purchases of how traditional synth architecture to go, versus how obscure and experimental to go. Dark Time would fit the paradigm of me being in total control, and Z8000 & Rene more the "let's see what the modular has to say" more aleatory experience.

I have never had a prescription medication or antibiotics in my life for any condition physical or mental. I have beat every illness with my natural immunity, rest & nutrition (what EVERYONE had to do until 50 years ago). I also have had severe bouts of depression for the last 20 years that caused major negative consequences in my life, including loss of jobs, friends and group associations. When I started looking for psychologists, I was shocked at how readily they wanted to prescribe all kinds of medications without running any medical tests. I think there is a tendency for Americans to conflate Medicine and Doctors (a for profit industry) with Pure Science (a non-profit search for absolute scientific truth) and they have very little in common. Prescribing drugs without running tests is NOT good science, but it is good business. The US has over 30 Million People on antidepressants, of which at least 43% have not ever been tested even verbally by a Psychiatrist, much less had their neurotransmitter levels measured in a lab. They all just want that shiny new pill they saw advertised on TV (which is illegal in the EU and should be here to advertise prescription medications) to fix all their problems. Its pretty obvious that most antidepressant use in the US is over prescribed, marketing influenced, escapist, and NOT therapeutic and its Pharmaceutical companies getting rich off of our consumerist appetites and lack of regulation. I applaud Dr Vanderveer for paying more attention to healing than to profits, and calling out "spiritual materialism" for what it is.

tomorrow is their "big unveiling" of the Serato / Ableton software partnership product, hopefully with release dates and pricing. They announced this at NAMM'08, we got a Jazzy Jeff teaser in 2009 but with no screenshots, and NAMM2010 is supposed to be where we finally get to see what they've been working on. Serato Scratch Live will be able to control clips in Ableton Live but the details have yet to emerge: http://www.serato.com/ableton

I've been following this saga for a while now, and this is the first time they showed a screenshot, so that's good. The timing for the teaser is because tomorrow 1/14 is supposed to be the big announcement.

please Doepfer do what you did with the Dark Energy synth and make a Eurorack module version of this!

clever advice. so many people are quick to recommend a press kit, but so few have good ideas about how to do them right. this got me in the creative mindset to come up with my own ideas in addition to the solid thoughts you dropped here.

as much as the voice architecture and sound seems like a big win, the lack of discrete knobs or external patch ability weakens it, especially at this price point. For the money I would rather have the new Oberheim SEM for $900 or the Doepfer Dark Energy for $625 since both have knobs for every function and external patching for a tabletop analog synth. Dark Energy even has the same Curtis filter chip in it too, though not the double OSC with subOSC + 3 EGs that the Tetr4 has unfortunately. The thick polyphony of this unit is tempting still.

Ableton should do a similar contest, but leave it open to any control interface setup as long as Ableton is the software being used. I could do something very similar to this, except with my Korg Zero-8, Ableton Live, and an electro / fidget / indie-dance mix.

I like the module overview aspect of the video, so its not just another inexplicable music demo
