iPhone4 4.x to 5.0.1 update/jailbreak question

My daughter's iPhone 4 is currently on iOS 4.something. Blobs for 5.0.1 are stored with Cydia. Is it possible to upgrade her to 5.0.1 and then perform an untethered jailbreak? We're on Mac platforms.

If so, what would be the basic flow?

You should have gone to Walmart. At 5:10 today, our Walmart had all models in stock, hadn't sold a single unit, and there was no line.

I work *in* but not *for* a Walmart in Florida. At 5:10 today I strolled back to electronics. They have the iPad 2 in stock, but hadn't sold any yet -- no inquiries.

I think it's generally recommended to set up as a new iphone. It's a major pain, but seems to avoid some battery quick-drain and other issues.
