I, unfortunately, was not one of the lucky ones.

I was raped at Tufts University in 2006, but I still think about it everyday. It has changed my life in every day possible. I was expelled from school after I started speaking out about being a survivor and the school ignoring my rape report and letting my rapist go free without ANY investigation. They thought that I was "crazy" and a liar. As a scholarship student they didn't think I mattered.

I had NO money and no resources and I've been fighting for years to try and even partially reverse this injustice done to me. The Department of Education is investigating Tufts for violating Title IX, but it has been an uphill battle the whole damn way.

I just wanted to say thanks for bringing awareness to this issue. I know that letting down rape victims is an epidemic at Tufts...and colleges across the country. It is a serious issue... I know, unfortunately, firsthand the dire ramifications of a system that does not properly prevent to address violence.

Clearly we need more programs like yours. Not only that, but we also need to make all schools actively engage with teachers to make sure they create an environment where students of all identities feel welcome and included. As a student of colour that went to a predominantly white prep school, I can attest that one day a year for teacher 'diversity training' is NOT enough.

Thank you for speaking out. Even tho I was raped at college years ago, the effects of it and the consequences of the school's inadequate actions haunt me every day. Not a single day goes by when I am not reminded of what happened to me and how the system failed me.

I'm so sorry to hear about your experience. If you ever want to talk or want advice or support, please feel free to email me at blog@rapedattufts.info. What they did was wrong. This is why deans need to be trained on how to handle this stuff...and if they don't get it they need to get a new job. You should have a write to file against your abuser and the school who refuses to do anything. You're not crazy. You were being brave and sharing your story.

I hope you get the peace and justice you deserve.

Sadly the Rape Crisis Center is not very good in my area. I had reached out to them for help and they basically never returned my repeated calls. They are very understaffed.

I hope I didn't scare you too badly! If you want to talk about how you can be prepared and how to work the system the Tufts to your advantage if you know someone who is assaulted, feel free to contact me - contact@rapedattufts.info

It's sad that the administration honestly didn't care about me, but I am confident that the people who allowed my perpetrator go and to further oppress me themselves will be held accountable.

You're starting an important, new phase of your life soon! You will be going to an amazing school and will get great opportunities. I hope your career at Tufts ends up a MILLION times better than mine. :) In my opinion, it's all about knowledge. Coming to this site already puts you MILES ahead of where I was while at school.

best of luck!

I heard about this. It is really fucking infuriating that people still treat other human beings this way. There's really no excuse.
