Thank you for such a beautiful story and such a kind action.

Agreed. There seems to be a lot unanswered here. Giving him the benefit of the doubt, he "slipped through." And hardly not the only mentally disabled to do so. Animal control was probably in the best position to call for social worker intervention, etc. back in 2010 since there seems to be a lack of family or friends, but it sounds like they couldn't really tell he was mentally disabled.

"The dog probably provided comfort for the man and he just needed help to care for the animal. To bad he didn't have anyone that loved him enough to help him."

Yes, I even think about the group home situations in which there is the benefit of the pet but someone with proper mental capacity is in charge of the care.

The linked article is far more complete:

"The case dates back to the winter of 2010, when Humane Society officials got a report of three starving dogs at 336 16th Ave., Longview. Woodruff’s roommate handed two of the dogs over to the Humane Society, but Woodruff insisted on keeping Lil Miss, Animal Control Supervisor Mike Nicholson said."

It could be argued unclear who actually owned the three of them. The sad thing is, it was a missed chance to remove Lil Miss as well. All three were starving.

Reading the full article what is sad is that there was an opportunity to remove the dog while it was still alive (and I agree - I would sure like some tracking down on how he had one, let alone 3 dogs). It will be hard to ever know his true mental state because it is to his defense that they present him as mentally disabled.

Hopefully some reviewing is going on the with how the initial investigation was handled in 2010. It is heartbreaking the thought of a dog slowly dying while deprived of food and attention.

I wonder what the lifelong follow-up will be to ensure he never has an animal again. Are they planning on him being competent enough to remember and honor that?

I totally agree with you, since when did the meaning of the 4th mean spend as much money as you can on explosives.

I am out in North Bend. Year 2 of Snoqualmie Reservation fireworks sales. This is a miserable experience. The garbage, the money, and the noise, and the costs to so many animals is so great. This is a terrible story and I am sorry the horse died because of the inconsiderate act of humans. It must have been a terrible ending for the owner and the driver of the car even.

My pets are in the house but that doesn't mean this is a fun night for them either.

I agree. I live in the Snoqualmie Valley area. My garbage cans are in a garage and I don't put it out the night before. I actually wish there would be heavily enforced fines.

I don't like bear being killed, sick, or injured because of our poor judgement. Even neighbors that have had their cans knocked over and dragged by bear continue to put them out. It really is a shame and honestly disrespectful.

I have made the Blueberry Ketchup twice now and I highly recommend trying it. Wonderful smell when making as well.

The sad thing is, that even if there was cancer the Ellis family should have been given the option to see the dog through the remainder of its life. Some of us have rescued for the very short end of an animal's life and do this knowing they are on borrowed time.

The shelter screwed up and deprived this dog the chance of a loving ending after having to suffer on its own.
