mind tellin me what programming language u need to jailbreak and unlock iphones??

I got an iPhone 3G jailbroken and unlocked(with yellowsn0w) and got firmware 2.2 (5G77) with Modem Firmware 02.28.00
If I wait till they release the new redsn0w for 3.1 will I be able to unlock using ultrasn0w?
Should I upgrade from iTunes to 3.0 (NOT 3.1) and jailbreak with redsn0w 0.7.2???
What do you suggest me to do?
