Story in the Mail today about uproar because the main UK exam board set a GCSE question asking why some people are prejudiced against Jews. Maybe Eamonn has some of the answers?

I have read some cynicism and hypocrisy in the columns of the Tele but this piece comes near the top of the list for both those qualities. First of all, for years, when we desperately needed a party for working people to support as an alternative to the old sectarian voting patterns, Labour stubbornly refused to organise in Northern Ireland. What makes Mr. Black think we need or want Labour now? Secondly, although it is true that Osborne and co are loving putting the boot into working folk and the vulnerable, who is responsible for creating the shambles that gives them the opportunity to do it? That's right. New Labour. Examples of just a few of the more disastrous New Labour achievements? OK. Deliberate massive uncontrolled immigration costing billions in benefits to the detriment of our own needy. An NHS just about destroyed. The ruined economy which is Osborne's gleeful excuse to attack the vulnerable is a direct result of Brown's vaunted "light touch" regulation of the financial sector. In reality it was total lack of regulation and it allowed the chancers in the banks to mix ordinary clients funds with their hedge fund gambles. Losing gambles that we , the tax payers, had to pay billions to honour while Labour never even tried to fire and prosecute the criminal bankers or rein in their personal greed. Mind you, speaking of personal greed, the bankers have a long way to go to equal that of Blair. And now he's talking political comeback. On yer bike Mr. Black.

Whether it's the biggest sporting event in the world is open to debate Darwin. What is not open to debate is that Coe and his crew have demeaned and debased whatever remained of the true Olympian ethos in a disgusting orgy of irrelevant sideshows, gross commercial exploitation by auctioning off "approved" status of every possible thing from beer to rucksacks. Then there's the disgraceful ticket chaos for proper sports fans but endless freebies tor the frankly X list celebs who only want to be there to be seen. All this money is craftily being channelled through LOCOG a limited company, not a public or charitable organisation, so that Coe can avoid any proper scrutiny via public information rules that would apply to a statutory organisation. Make no mistake, a lot of very shifty, undeserving people are making a lot of money out of London 2012. And afterwards? That's right, the country i.e. us the taxpayers will foot the massive cost over run. It took the Canadians 30 years to pay off the debts from Montreal 1976 and ours is a whole lot bigger than theirs, using present day values. It will be a bit like a Japanese mortgage - you'll be able to pass it on to your kids. Anyway, I wouldn't give two hoots if the BBC broadcast it 24 hours a day, other than maybe a quick skelly at Bolt they can keep it.

For years NI retailers of everything from beds to booze controlled the market and soaked us for every penny. I remember every time the Licensed Victuallers' cabal put up the price of stout my Granda and friends boycotted the pubs - for about six days - before they bowed to the monopoly again. Boots chemists proposed a shop in my home town years ago only to be blocked by the councillors, one of whom just happened to be a local pharmacist. When you come down to it the only people really complaining about the failure of high streets are the shop keepers whose attitudes caused the failure. For the rest of us, the customers, we can moan a little about the power of the multiples but in reality the range is better, the quality is better, the service by and large is OK and it is a heck of a lot cheaper. So Tesco, ASDA, LIDL, Currys ect. are making money. I for one don't begrudge a profit to anyone who provides what I need at a better price. Every little helps.

To me, honouring the boul Amelia sounds, on the face of it like a perfectly sound idea. Attract the Yankee tourist dollar and help the oul economy. I'd say go ahead. Coming from almost anyone else it would probably be adopted nem con. But given the source, some, it appears most, folk will have just a nagging wee worry about what's really behind it.

Part of the the Hippocratic oath is that doctors "refrain from doing harm". Hardly suitable for the likes of Brady. I will refrain from making the all too obvious jibe about a Hypocritical Oath.

Your premise that representing your country is political is tenuous but viewed from a certain perspective just about understandable. Where is the rationale for religion?
