Wouldn't let me read it unless I signed up for the paper.

That was really a disappointing article. I wanted to know who the guy is, why nobody looked for him, what happened, and why he remembers Boulder.

This sounds like some rambling b.s. This fine upstanding father talked with the heroin dealer about his expected behavior around the child, was told the dealer planned on molesting the child, then later in the week back at Dad's house, Dad again talked with dealer about dealer's behavior in front of the child. He sure was sounding responsible. Oh, wait...

It sounds much better than their elm tree protection plan.

Why would the coroner's office refuse to say how many overdose deaths it has seen this year?

A teenage friend of my daughter's died two weekends ago in Boulder county from heroin overdose. There was no mention of it in any newspaper, and her friends were amazed by that. They thought it was big enough news and rare enough that it would be covered. I think if kids knew how common heroin OD was, maybe they would choose a different drug, or be more careful. Or maybe not.

Having dealt with a lot of depressed people, it is conceivable to me that someone could see this hurdle as insurmountable, even though it was a miner blip in life. People balance on a thin line sometimes.

That being said, I don't believe the person who reported the remodel has any culpability here. Anything can send a person over the edge. A traffic ticket, a rude cashier, an expensive car repair, a horrible boss. Things just pile up for people and one more thing is just too much.

I see your point, however, this woman is obviously a habitual offender and alcoholic. She will find a way to drink and drive no matter who tries to help.

Did SHE consider drinking in the safety of her own home? Sleeping in her car rather than driving it? Drinking at a bar close to home so that she could walk home? Asking for a cab? Even the addicted can make better choices than she did.

The fact that he acted this selfishly and recklessly with a baby in the car really gets to me.

Extreme indifference doesn't sound like first degree murder. This was intentional, not indifferent. I hope he never again sees the light of day.
