I don't get the distaste for the Pacific. I get the whole "Tom Hanks said some absurdly stupid and inflammatory things" part, but I never saw any indication his lunacy . Maybe I'm biased. Well, actually, clearly I'm biased. But I thought it was brilliant and while I thought Band of Brothers was a more engaging series from beginning to end, I was far more emotionally affected by this series. The series is worth the effort just to watch the amazing relationship between Sledge (Mazello) and Snafu (Rami Malek), how they keep each other from slipping into the abyss. Oh ... and my God, that opening title sequence ... a little long, but holy macaroni, that's good stuff. __Sorry, but if the only reason you don't watch this is because Tom Hanks has a big mouth, than that is your loss. Thankfully it is not mine.

The intro to this review reminded me of the beginning of the first South Park after 9/11.

I disagree with this line of thought. I don't see the value in skipping a movie like Inception based on the deranged political leanings of some of the cast members. It would be one thing if they were recruited specifically because of their lunacy, but nothing about Christopher Nolan suggests this sort of thing. In fact, the movie itself is apolitical, which is one of the nearly infinite number of things I adore about this film.
Back when "The Pacific" was aired on HBO I saw a lot of similar commentary because of Tom Hank's flapping gums. People boycotting because Hanks is dumb. Well I watched the Pacific, and I never once got the impression that Hanks's world view shaped the narrative of the series.
It's a shame, because both Inception and the Pacific were outstanding works of art that deserve an audience.
