Come to think of it, Jen and Lonni's rooms have a lot in common (with the walls being the centerpieces of the designs). Maybe that's part of the reason Lonni got the boot!

Anyway, in response to your question, Dan is definitely less "out-there" than Antonio. I do think he has some very creative and interesting design solutions, though -- the boats in the nursery, the way he hung his art piece, and the design of his white-wall room, for example. It's not revolutionary, but his creativity could be put to good use in his own show.

If you look at what HGTV shows have been most successful, they seem to be the ones with some kind of consistent theme - David Bromstad's show focuses on using color, Vern Yip's show is about the homeowners as much as it is the designs, etc. If HGTV's producers found the right niche show concept for Antonio, he could do really well (I'm thinking a design show where they incorporate DIY construction tips, or something along those lines). I'm not sure that it would be a hit with viewers, but it would at least be something new and different from what's currently on their programming schedule.

The winner of the show needs to be two things - first, a good designer. I think Lonni, Antonio, and Dan all meet this criterion. Sure, each of them has had a few lapses in judgment and mediocre rooms, but given the constraints of the show, they've all done well.
What I think the judges' decision will ultimately come down to is the second criterion - which designer will be the most successful host. All three of the top three have good potential here. Sure, some of them have some weaknesses and on-camera nervousness, but they're inexperienced. With some time, any of them could be wonderful on camera. If you remember from the first season, David Bromstad was relatively weak on hosting skill. But following a day of professional hosting coaching (shown in a one-hour special about his transition from winner to host), he was much, much better in front of the camera.
Since they're all good designers and all have acceptable potential as hosts, the judges have to be basing their decisions from here on whose show could be most successful. This is the main reason HGTV changed the format of the show from "America votes" to complete control by the judges. They had a hard time creating a show around Season 3's winner and wanted more control over their programming (understandably so).
With that in mind, Lonni's elimination (in my opinion) makes sense. Her design this week was great, but ultimately, she doesn't have enough unique design elements or personality traits to keep her on the air. Her designs may be nice, but they're not enough to keep The Lonni Show on TV for multiple seasons. HGTV is always trying to push the envelope with their program concepts, and she doesn't really fit the bill. A show hosted by Dan or Antonio (Antonio in particular, I think) would be moving in a new direction, and I think that's exactly what they're looking for.
It may not be fair (Lonni's room was better than Antonio's this time), but there's more to it than who can create the best design each week!

Dan and Antonio have been my picks for the final two since early on in the competition. I'm rooting for Antonio, because I think his show would be more interesting and different from what's on right now, but I'm sure Dan could do great also.
I'm already dying to watch next week's episode!

I think Antonio is showing a lot of potential. He has yet to produce a bad room, he's likable and has a lot of personality, and he's a bit different from HGTV's current lineup of hosts.
As always, I can't wait for next week!

Every week, Tashica had found a way to narrowly escape elimination. Her poorly executed bedroom in the first episode was pathetic, and she was lucky NataLee was the first to be eliminated. In Week 2, her contributions to the kitchen project were minimal, and the entire team thought she was the weakest link. I agreed with the judges' decision to eliminate the team leader that week, but again, Tashica's place on the show was only saved by a slightly bigger failure. In Week 3, her white wall challenge design was uninspired and uninteresting.
Following three weeks of unimpressive design, she was given a final shot to show not only her design talent, but her ability to assert herself to her teammates. At this, she completely failed, echoing the ideas of other designers and resigning herself to menial construction and labor tasks.
Unable to identify any sign of Tashica's design talent in her team's garage design, the judges gave her a chance to explain herself and her role in the project. Her response was pathetic -- not only did she admit that she contributed nothing to the design, but she tried placing the blame on everyone but herself and whined to the judges that she deserved yet another chance to show her abilities. How many opportunities does it take, Tashica? This was completely disrespectful to her teammates and the judges, and she deserved to be eliminated on the spot.

I'm sure glad KVAL found someone to present a sensible and intelligent counterargument to the new legislation. *rolleyes*

They do know that bike theft happens elsewhere, too, right?
