I agree. I just finished reading "The FairTax Book" by Neal Boortz. The gist of the FairTax is no more income tax witholding period. Consumers pay a national sales tax on all new goods and services (suggested at 23%, but researchers have concluded that businesses add in 22% from their own tax burden). Everyone with a social security number gets a "prebate" check every month to pay the tax on necessities. This is determined by family size and the current federal poverty level figures. For instance, a family of 4 would get a little over $500.00 per month, regardless of income. Businesses would pay no taxes on income. They would use the extra money to expand their businesses, hire new workers and invest (and hopefully lower prices). Any money individuals save, invest or bequeath would not be taxed. This isn't a way to increase or decrease tax revenues; just a fairer way to collect them.
Where on earth is the Supreme Court in all of this mess? Someone affected needs to challenge these laws on the basis of the constitution. We have THREE branches of government, but we are only hearing about two of them.
