it's a great video and the tools look amazing! there's a big difference between this and a sketchbook...i've filled pages and pages of sketchbooks with half drawn (or less images), while this lets me wipe backwards all the way to the start if i want. if you don't sketch then i'm sure it doesn't make sense to you.

there's a great youtube video of picasso painting and covering his work as he goes, ending up with a totally different painting than you thought he was constructing created in the very last five seconds of the piece. it would be interesting to see if he had used an iPad (time travel required, unfortunately).

But so what? The app is about split screen, not how fast you can write with your finger. It's a clean up item, not really related to the app's purpose.
The feature is very useful for me. Screenwriting using my software on the left side of the screen, research notes, maps, pics and more on the right, without squeezing screen size, swiping to another screen, makes it an extremely useful tool, at least for my needs.

For the folks who enjoy staring at a plumbers ass crack for hours on 'end' (Plumbers Crack app by the developer scrambling) this might curtail your pleasure for a while, at least until these geniuses, through their 'proactive' ( seven months after Apple announced it) actions make it work under the 'new' guidelines. Meanwhile you just have to find somebody else's crack to stare at. Whatever floats your boat.

Of course, I'm wasting time (waiting for a ride) to refute your comment, per Apple's online dictionary:
refute |riˈfyo͞ot|
verb [ with obj. ]
prove (a statement or theory) to be wrong or false; disprove: these claims have not been convincingly refuted.
• prove that (someone) is wrong.
• deny or contradict (a statement or accusation): a spokesman totally refuted the allegation of bias.

If you have an already formed opinion, which it appears you do ("... "everyone is copying us!" line that Apple's marketing and die-hard zealouts constantly dance around... ") then it's easy to see how you could read what he said to belittle people who think the competition is copying Apple.

What he says is "doing something different" "wanting to be new" are the wrong starting point. His own quote: "'Different' and 'new' are relatively easy. Doing something genuinely better is very hard." -- Jony Ive

Again, I think Apple marketing has done it well. The tone of the ad is very soft and I would think it would have a lot of appeal to moms and some dads who don't have to have a corporate masculine voice to reach them and what they really care about, when it gets down to it...their kids.
From the opening image of a pretty flower, to a kid storybook, to the great balloon scene from Up, to the cute princess smiling, to art strokes on an image from the kids book, the whole thing speaks to a particular audience, in my opinion, and does it well. Just like the "I've got to start a band" was designed for the teen demographic.
IMHO Apple marketing knows what they are doing and has for the better part of their existence.

Totally spot on. The mind set of the poster you responded to, who said, in part: "...If you want to be a part of the game, you have to play by the rules. Being the biggest and best doesn't change that..." is EXACTLY the mind set of non game-changers. It's only a mind set like S. Jobs had that truly revolutionized the way we look at and incorporate certain technologies in our lives. Daily. Hourly. Minute(ly)???? ok..ok...

When you say: "3Mbps can still costs $30 a month in some places when much of the rest of the developed world has 100Mbps for that price, or even free..."..again..true. I spent time in Europe on a film shoot and when I describe to my friends our fee structures, offers our telecoms make, even being charged to receive a call, they roll their eyes. It's sick, and not in the good 'sick' way. Not at all.

I call it brilliant (as usual) marketing. Apple has a huge and loyal following for the iPad and those people are mostly aware that a new Pad is coming out and it's not the same as the one they have, and sites like this go so much deeper than most buyers where people have terribly specific needs, stats they want and features they need.

The market Apple is wooing is the one that has people that don't have an iPad and probably don't know the iterations and what they stand for and can simply walk into an Apple store and say I want the iPad, you know, the new one. Sure makes it simple for them, and could easily work far into the future, so no matter what the latest iPad is, that's the one they want. If not, then they will ask about 'older' options...maybe.
