Harris should have been thrown off the team from the beginning of his illegal behavior and there needs to be a zero tolerance policy for any athlete proven to violate the law. Role model? oh ya for being rebellious, selfish, arrogant, stupid, whatever-There are plenty of athletes who could rise to the level if given a chance and if bumping out the bozos opens up a slot-so much the better. Every athletic program in this country needs the balls to just say no to dopers and perverts. The score on the board is not the only score that matters in life. This article is a huge embarrassment to Eugene and the UO. As usual, I am NOT proud to be an alumni.

sure is odd then how many people on probation, with suspended licenses etc. have medical marijuana cards. I have yet to meet anyone with a mm card that really seems like they actually deserve it. From my viewpoint it is an incredibly bogus program.

I am flabbergasted at the decision to spend 300K this way. I can only surmise that the city has funds to flush! I sure hope this summer we won't suddenly see new park fees due to this misspending of park funds--of course we already have a plentitude of potholes that remain unrepaired so we can expect an increase. Then there is the gang prevention fund--no worries despite the October 17, 2011 presentation to the city council avowing that gang activity is rising in Eugene. Guess they forgot that presentation already. I am appalled and ashamed as the city councilors should be,

It is not compassionate to create an environment where there are a great number of people crowded into an area that contains career criminal elements like sex offenders and sketchy sanitation. Nor is it compassionate to squander resources while PhD students play social workers.

Yeah well mine lost it when the union mismanaged the funds...so there are plenty of bad guys out there to blame. The bottom line is that all of us are mega wealthy compared to those in 3rd world countries so I guess they should come here and occupy us, eh?

We are in this mess not only because of bankers but because of the greed of those who wanted their "share" of the mc-mansion dream--huge houses with large price tags and all the bells and whistles they could get. Add to that all those who refinanced their loan 100 plus percent so they could buy big flat screen TVs, SUVs, boatsm ATVs...you name it. Yes you can find ordinary folks who got burned also, but the majority of it is the greed of conspicuous consumption on the bottom and the greed of money makers at the top who saw an easy way to get more. The love of money is a root of all evil and it has been been from the beginning not just in 21st century American. And OE is not contributing any solution to the root of that problem.

I am very concerned that the longer they stay and they more entrenched they get the more likely it will be that there is a riot when the deadline to close the camp comes. From the police report I read on this link, it seems obvious that things are getting more and more out of control. I just hope the mayor and council wake up and get some common sense before they end up with a situation they deeply regret.

It is time to end the occupation--and that is such an apt term! Many of these people are NOT residents but have come from places like Delaware (check out the occupy page on facebook) or are transient wanderers just checking out the "action." No matter who they are the facts are these: they have cost us 100K in tax dollars, they are not CONTRIBUTING in any material way to this community but instead are sucking up resources that could be used to help our local homeless, they have destroyed the park area, they are a magnet for career criminals, and they absolutely DO NOT represent 99% of the population anywhere on this planet. Email the mayor and council at mayorcouncilandcitymanager@ci.eugene.or.us and tell them you do not want the permit renewed.

you can email Kitty and the council and let them know what you think. Here is the response I got from her explaining why they are doing the "right thing" which she sent from her iphone. I think more folks should let them all know what they think. Kitty's email said:
I will try to answer you. This is a national movement that may be around for a while. People will have differing views.
In our city, the city manager, police chief and council all concluded that working through cooperatively would have the least fiscal impact on our city. So far we've avoided the health and safety issues experienced elsewhere as well as any property damage.
Our non camping ordinance has a built in waiver option that may be used for special events. That's what council used and it is therefore legal.
There have been costs but relatively modest compared to those of cities where it has not gone peacefully.
Many of the OE people have been/ are employed and pay taxes. There are teachers, lawyers, healthcare workers, cooks, mediators, peacemakers, young people, old people, veterans, and people without homes.
