I'm always pissed off by folks who go through heavy-duty fertility treatments, and then produce a litter of kids with serious medical problems due to underdevelopment in an overcrowded uterus. (Reducing the number of implanted zygotes would be murder, after all.) I'm a large woman, and producing healthy full-sized twins stretched the limits of what my body could reasonably support.
Then, while the NICU doctors and nurses work behind the scenes around the clock to salvage these badly damaged babies, the proud parents go on TV to thank god for bringing them these "miracles". And when these "miracles" die in infancy due to their undeveloped longs or brains or spinal cords, it's just that Jesus called them home to become angels. I think this is child abuse of the first order. (Sorry, another soap box.)

My husband often accuses me of being an "intellignce bigot"--he says I don't like stupid people. I have tried to explaing that I readily deal with folks who don't know something. I'm willing to explain what I meant or how to do something. But I won't long tolerate people who work HARD at maintaining ignorance and/or helplessness. (Grown women who whine, "but I'm not good with numbers!" when they've just trashed all the formulas in one of my spreadsheets, again.....People whose outgoing mail gets returned to the office because they can't remember that postage went up 4 months ago, despite the huge sign posted right above the postage meter....Folks who repeatedly override spell-check systems and "correct" my documents because the word really is spelled "seperate".) And their response is along the lines of "I don't want to learn anything new, can't you just fix it for me again?" Once or twice, sure. Then it's "Nope. Sorry. Don't have the time today." Sorry. My soapbox seems to have teeth marks in the edges.

Well, Philly, I'm half Italian and a (recovering) Catholic, and though I only know you through various blogs, I certainly love your writing and your logic!

That is one thing I truly appreciate about In-N-Out Burger. There are about 5 in this area, and they all have non-crackly speaker systems, and the kids working the other end of the system invariably speak clearly and (for lack of a better word) politely. They can be understood, and you don't get a lot of "Uh, what?"

I don't ever order sodas, and was greatly surprised at our Taco Bell when the worker at the drive-up tried to hand me 3 Mr.Pibbs, insisting, "You ordered Mr. Pibb! You pay for Mr. Pibb! I'm tired of you kids ordering and then changing your mind!"
A.) I'm 55, so how am I a kid? 2.) Was there an invisible car in between me and the one in front that placed this order? I never got the Nachos I did order. I haven't been back there.
