Government inflated the college loan bubble, but Obama isn’t fixing it
It’s officially a crisis. Student loan debt has hit the $1 trillion mark, exceeding Americans’ total credit card indebtedness. Unemployed graduates with huge loan balances are camping out in “Occupy” camps -- the Hoovervilles of our age -- around the nation. And President Obama, perhaps afraid those camps will be dubbed “Obamavilles,” as indeed they have already been by some, has unveiled a new proposal that promises to help graduates who are drowning in debt.
Unfortunately, “promises” is the correct word. Though unveiled with much fanfare, the Obama proposal doesn’t really do much. First, as the Chronicle of Higher Education pointed out in an article characterizing it as mostly political, “The benefit is available only to current students. Those jobless college graduates who are protesting on Wall Street and at similar events elsewhere won’t qualify.”

Herman Cain's campaign headquarters has released a response to a story, broken this evening on Politico, that in the 1990s two female employees of the National Restaurant Association "complained to colleagues and senior association officials about inappropriate behavior by Cain," who at the time was head of the trade group. http://campaign2012.washingtonexaminer.com/blogs/...

Nearly three years into President Obama’s first term in office, Michelle Obama finally said something with which I can agree.
At a recent fundraiser for President Obama’s re-election campaign in Providence, Rhode Island, the first lady told her audience:
“We stand at a fundamental crossroads for our country. You’re here because you know that in just 13 months, we’re going to make a choice that will impact our lives for decades to come … let’s not forget what it meant when my husband appointed those two brilliant Supreme Court justices … let’s not forget the impact that their decisions will have on our lives for decades to come.”
This was music to the ears of the small, affluent crowd of admirers who cheered and applauded. But to gun owners, Michelle Obama’s remarks should sound like a warning bell, alerting us to the danger ahead should Barack Obama win re-election and get the opportunity to alter the current make-up of the Supreme Court.
When Americans flock to the polls in 13 months, we will not simply decide which direction our country should take over the next four years. Rather, we will decide whether or not our fundamental, individual right to keep and bear arms will survive over the next several decades.

Fascinating account of how new environmental regulations and restoration projects are emptying the northern California countryside, Rural rebellion brewing: http://legalinsurrection.com/2011/10/emptying-the...
It’s a reverse of what happened when the communists took over Southeast Asia, and the cities were depopulated as a political strategy. Here, the political strategy is to depopulate the countryside, and drive everyone into politically correct cities.

This is significant. Even George Will, the dean of Washington’s establishment conservative punditocracy, is beginning to see Mitt Romney as the disaster he’d be should he be the Republican nominee in 2012. And for Will, this must be difficult since Romney, that most established of establishment candidates, is exactly the kind of guy Will would normally support: Ivy League education, the son of a former Governor, easily malleable on social issues, etc., etc. And let’s not forget, last spring George Will decreed that Romney was only one of five potential GOP candidates worthy of consideration for the presidency

President Obama has been going around trying to scare people by telling them if he’s not re-elected, a painful era of self-reliance will mercilessly rain down upon them. That’s the pioneer spirit!
The First Lady also got the “scare ‘em with the threat of independence” memo: http://dougpowers.com/2011/10/28/flotus-2/
And if the chance at re-election looks bleak, there’s only one thing to do — tell your diminishing ranks of supporters to get physical.

Hot Air has confirmed with the Arizona Department of Public Safety that fliers have been found at Occupy Phoenix instructing people on when to shoot police officers. First reported by the Jon Justice show on 104.1 FM in Tucson, the flier resulted in a counterterrorism alert issued to all law enforcement agencies in the state:

I’m curious to see how the media in Arizona and the rest of the nation approach this development. They went into convulsions retroactive to the Gabrielle Giffords shooting that killed six other people because Sarah Palin used crosshairs on a map once (as had Democrats on a number of occasions), which the media used to paint the Tea Party and conservatives as somehow responsible for the massacre conducted by a madman with no discernibly rational political posture. Will they hold the Occupy movement to the same ridiculous standard? I’m betting …. no.
