I never actually hunted bears in 15 years in AK... the Sabots were for self-defense... VERY close range, always. The griz/browns on Admiralty, Kodiak, etc. get up to 1200 or so pounds... that's a lot of teeth and claws, and they're impressive animals. Ya' done good with your buddy, even with 'pretendo-bears' like blacks, and we used to say, when you're in brown bear country, a .357 is good for one thing only; committing suicide to avoid taking a mauling!! Good job, buddy... you got all the right ideas about bears.

Rat on, Pappy!! You can go hunting with me on Admiralty any time you want to. I used a 12-gauge, with 3" magnum Sabot loads while I was there. Knock down power is important with bruins. It's like punching a prize fighter in the nose... you take the fight right out of him!!
