Nice catch on that guy, I was driving through Vancouver and was wondering why there were so many cop cars everywhere. Got into Portland and started seeing cops flying all over the place and checked the scanner app on my iPhone... This guy was ALL OVER the place at high speeds - missed the excitement from the Vancouver side, but heard them on Marine Drive, MLK, then up around Chautauqua and Willis, and then finally nabbed in St Johns. Shame he didn't come past my house, I could have had a surprise waiting for him ;-)

It appears that an anti-terrorism specialist like Jack Bauer can't tell the difference between infrared-illuminated photography and the commonly referred as "infrared" thermal imaging! I guess it's time for him to retire for good... And replace him with a Predator, who certainly WILL know the difference.

There should be a shotgun behind the counter in every business. That would put a stop to crime pretty damn fast.

If a program doesn't work without large federal subsidies, perhaps you shouldn't try to do it in the first place(or at least not until a way is found to make the program fund itself)... Unsustainable spending is killing this country, both at the national and local levels.

All that time(what, a year and a half at least?) working on the sewer pipes and running boring machines, and they should have been replacing water mains instead...

I'd love to see a water test on that Pacific Pride station on the corner... Bad enough that the diesel filters always seemed to be clogged there.

What was once a lake wants to return to a lake! :-)

Wow.

1st, life jackets are required to be on every boat, but no they cannot force you to wear them. Just like they can't force you to buy a car with air bags, or use a seat belt(although they can certainly ticket you for not doing so, they can't FORCE you to do it).

2nd, how are you going to charge a dead man for recovering his body? Now of course for rescues of live persons, it's certainly not uncommon to be charged a fee, especially if it was because you were doing something incredibly stupid or criminal that got you into that situation - not to mention the potential of criminal or civil court action in some of those cases.

I think the larger issue here is that people are just too damn stupid. If you can't swim, stay off the river. If you don't have a map, food, and warm clothing, stay off the mountain. What is so difficult to figure out about this? NATURE KILLS. On a similar note, you would probably notice if you pay attention that all the people crying for the reintroduction of predatory species(*cough* wolves) are all city slickers that have no concept of what happens in the wild. Yup, lets bring *insert dangerous species* back to the area - oh look, it's a sunny day! Lets go hiking in that mountainous area full of wolves while wearing t-shirts and carrying no supplies or maps whatsoever...

Personally, if you want legal action, I think Darwin should be suing the rescuers for weakening the gene pool.

And I bet they find a way for it to NOT stop at Jantzen Beach(which is already nearly a dead mall now as it is)

LOL.

OK, first of all it doesn't go 56 knots. Well, it might(I've heard that the nuclear powered ships like the old USS Long Beach could leave everything else in the fleet behind in a hurry), but the USN rarely lists any of their equipment as capable of faster than 30-ish knots. Second, 56 knots would not be 35mph. (I'm guessing someone copy-pasted the metric speed in kilometers per hour from wikipedia when writing this story)

And seriously, calling a Burke a "massive ship" is kidna funny since it is about the same length, or smaller in many cases, than many of the commercial ships that pass through this area. Maybe large compared to an older destroyer, but certainly a lot smaller than a cruiser or the long lost battleships - so as warships go, they aren't exactly "massive."

Now that I'm done with the rant - yes, it does have quite a lot of firepower. And I'm glad to see them here. But leave the "massive" comments for when they finally getting around to building a battleship-sized missile platform!

It's not even technically the city - Metro runs all the garbage stuff. And don't forget the takeover many years ago that destroyed the free market economy and competition, forcing companies to provide service to certain areas and nowhere else.

No more rate increases, and do away with Metro!
