I think they were just trying to show that there is nothing wrong with the phones, yet when you call the senator's office, the phones do not ring. My guess is that they got bombarded with phone calls after the Louisiana purchase and decided that the best thing to do is to ignore them. It seems that that's what these guys were trying to point out.

Initially I was thinking the same thing, but now I'm not so sure. I think giving the left just enough rope so they can hang themselves with may be an added benefit. I just hope there were no laws broken, however obscure, that can be used against James and the others.
