In Oregon, snow falls in a thin layer, but is described as piles up. At least the last storm was really something of a storm. Because so often, the weather report forecasts "storm" when 1/2 inch of rain and little 30mph gusts are predicted.

Actually, I did not even know of that website until KATU made it a headline. Crime existed before websites. And at least adult prostitution is legal out of state. So removing the website or that part of the website will probably not solve the problem. But KATU and other news helping to advertise sure doesn't seem to slow things down much.

Could it be the justice system is too slow, or that the penalties are to lax? Should penalties become severe? And how severe?

You mentioned "BS". That gets me thinking of the scout. What was the reported comment he made? Quote: "Any highway in Oregon, I can get a permit in five days or less to do whatever I want,"

Seriously? Any highway? Whatever he wants? I defy the scout to get a permit for Highway 99 through the midst of Tigard near Costco, over to King City, in 5 days, to do whatever he wants.

How about Hy. 26 to the Oregon Coast in July, on the spur of the moment, to do whatever he wants? In 5 days or less?

Failure of a scout to do their job if the information is right. If the scout was repeatedly failing to answer questions and supply answers for an extended period of time, does not the problem fall on that scout? Even if it was a private ranch, and I owned it, I'd want to know some details about their preparation, planning and research before they drove vehicles on snow covered roads. Especially if other people were in the area.

What would it take -- 2 minutes - for the scout to write "we've got 6 people for traffic control, 8 spotters, X number of traffic cones and signs, and an emergency plan, etc.?

The Forest Service could have compounded this. But if the report is true, the scout alone could have single-handed messed things up, and is trying to save face with Mercedes.

Although Mt. Everest is different, it could be used for an a comparison example. Until fairly recently, about 1 out of every 10 people who tried to climb it died. I don't know the travel stats for that mountain, but it would be a shock if even more died just going to it.

Where did you get your stats for people driving to Mt. Hood?
