Gotcha. Yea - authsmtp will solve lots of mail problems, although you still have the hassle of building HTML for email (which is beyond the scope of the thread obviously, and not trivial). Authsmtp is an essential when on Amazon's IPs, so it's a superb service to your customers. Nice!
