Yep, I got fooled. Of course, the spam doesn\'t negate the lack of response from Comcast, which is their bailiwick. That was the main point of the post.

Thanks for that, John. Dr. Misner could probably bring a lot to the table, but I wouldn't expect him to have much interest. I think a big challenge is that the need is rather vaguely felt among company execs. There's a feeling that some things could be better, but no real urgency to try. The key for a firm operating in this space would be to make the pain very real--wasted time, money, etc.--and get some pilots that build a little traction.

That's very kind of you, Mark. Yes, they are a good example of what makes Boulder great.

I tend to agree. The failure rates may have less to do with Kotter's work than with people having the will and discipline to apply them.

That observation about one group managing another to predetermined goal is important--it neatly fits the definition of "unintended consequences": the unplanned and unforeseen consequences occurring when a simpler system attempts to regulate a more complex one.

I cannot imagine a rational case for claiming that the network is more important than the software it enables.

The success is in creating an interaction so simple that the difference doesn't matter.

Thanks Holly! My experience as the buyer was that the innovation had to be played just right. "Not invented here" was strong in all the companies with whom I have worked, especially pharma, which is very much a "best and brightest" industry. It's pretty clear, though, that there is more entrepreneurial activity than ever before, primarily for the reasons you mention. Big, lumbering companies will change incrementally, but the ones who embrace the new are going to see a degree of magnitude in capability and performance (my prediction).
