Sounds like canon isn't going to jump into mirrorless anytime soon. They sound very conservative on the "acceptance" of reasoning people buy mirrorless.

wow, totally out of the blue. I would much rather have a 50mm, but my GF1+20/1.7 combo is closer to this. If that is accurate for the final product, I almost want to get rid of my combo.. the old styling and ring based aperture control sell it for me (and the fact fuji can hold its own fairly well)

I'm afraid this will cost a hefty premium given who it's aimed at though. Not many consumers will want it.

18MP and 6.3fps? Doesn't that seem a bit off given you need dual digic 4 just to push 8fps at the same MP. And of course, would be very very close to the 7D. I'm going with it will have the same 50D sensor.

Price wise, 1199, and get rid of the 50D, introduce a better quality "T2i" rebel

yeah, being done right is a very big factor. It rarely ever is, heh.

I mean, the possibilities would be great if you had 3rd party support, but I don't see anyone really jumping on board. And I'm sure it'd introduce it's own PP issues.

But I suppose we shall see. It would be quite a feat if they go RED style and start selling sensor mounts.

At first glance, it seems really crazy. They definitely get points for being creative, but this seems quite wasteful, no? Sure you can get "matched" lens/sensor combos, but you still have to get someone to make it. Just like I'm hoping someone makes a MFT 45/1.4 pancake.

I just don't see the appeal of this given how hard it is to break into the market with a brand new lens(+sensor) system.

Also, I never would have thunk it, but that pic makes the Oly E-P2 EVF look small, at least by the way it's sticking out the back

The price difference is basically the EVF, not too bad if you were considering it anyway. However, I think it should have been an option, not a forced kit. And wow is that EVF highly disproportionate to the camera.

But I don't think I would be that upset if I were an E-P1 owner. Maybe initially, but the camera doesn't bring too much else to the table (unless it focuses as fast as the Panny, but most people who didn't dump their E-P1 for the GF1 don't need/care about the speed). This really should have been more of an E-P1x or something.

I'm far more disappointed about the lens announcements. I would like to see some solid fast prime/pancakes and/or fast standard zooms.

I have to reiterate the in body IS bit. Panasonic is not Canikon, they should have just bit the bullet and got on the IBIS train. It wasn't a selling point for me, but still, having it would have been really nice.

As for lenses, my GF1 will sit tight w/ the 20/1.7 for some time. The 45 macro disappoints for the price they're asking. The 14/2.8 is still an unknown. and no other small fast primes on the roadmap. hell, no small fast anything really.

This is very promising. I'm waiting till they release LR3 fully, but am somewhat bummed now that I spent the money on the Nik software collection for LR. I was going to buy SilverEfex and Dfine anyway, so it was marginal to get the complete kit. But now that LR has a pretty good NR algorithm, and new grain control, I feel like I wasted a bit, heh

Nothing new here, it's the good enough syndrome. I actually think we'll see the death of P&S cameras too. Ok, not death, but like the DSLR, we'll see less and less in the "normal" consumer. Everyone has a cell phone these days and that seems to be "good enough" as long as you can stick it on FB. Wired has a good article on this.

There will still be a market of course for those of us who are doing more than green box mode. Not to mention there are just physical limitations to what a tiny sensor can do. But yes, sales will dwindle. MFT is definitely a punch. Outside of professional work, I see myself leaning more and more toward it (and whatever will compete in this space). EVF technology will get better, and one day will replace OVF's, but that's a long ways out.

yeah, I've seen it's samples. Actually, for something that size, I still think canon's SD200 was great.. just lacked IS. If I only didn't crack it in my pocket... hence the desire for a cheap, small, anywhere camera.
