My money is on property taxes rising either way the vote goes. There is nothing to stop them from raising property taxes this year, next year, for the next 23 years.

Why wasn't any of the original LOST saved for protection and if protection is so vital, why is the city a hotel owner FIRST and then come begging for more money? The Convention Center was funded in part by bonds we didn't vote for FIRST then they come begging for more money. Why isn't the Chamber of Commerce and Downtown District donating to the cause?

Here is the ballot, which is set in stone. Vote based on this, because this is what it's all about. http://gis.linncounty.org/data/elections/special/...

"For the City of Cedar Rapids:
Ten percent (10%) for Property Tax Relief;
The specific purposes for which the revenues shall otherwise be expended are: Fifty percent (50%) to establish and maintain a flood protection system on both the east and west side of the Cedar River; and forty percent (40%) for existing street improvements."

The amphitheater is on a levee, which means it is part of the flood protection, which means money from the LOST could be used to complete it.

The committee has zero authority. The can only recommend to the council, who can do what they want.

The ballot language is just as vague as the first LOST ballot. It states "street improvements of existing streets", not street repair. As it stands, it could be used for a quiet zone for downtown, the medical mall, etc. Will it? I don't know, but their track record of bending the ballot language to suit their needs speaks for itself.
Here is a link to the actual ballot. Judge for yourself. http://gis.linncounty.org/data/elections/special/...
