Thanks for checking out my picks, Angel. Yes, last year's picks were tough, but I wasn't the only one who didn't see the Red Sox coming or the Blue Jays and Angels struggling. Who do you like winning the AL East and the World Series this year?

Hi Frank, thanks for the comment. It sounds like you and I would have loved to keep Cano in pinstripes, but even if George Steinbrenner were still alive, I would hope he would learn from his mistakes in giving out 10-year deals (A-Rod). Unfortunately, it was the Mariners that made the offer that Cano just could not refuse. Paying a 40-year-old 2B $24M doesn't sound like a good investment to me. We'll see how it plays out in the long run, but I stand by my opinion that the Yankees were right to let Cano go.

Ellsbury is another story. I think he's worth a little more than half of what the Yankees gave him – if that. The Yankees drastically overpaid for him, but he does have potential for high reward if his power numbers from 2011 return with the short porch in right.

Absolutely. I was pretty young in 1996 – all I remember is Charlie Hayes catching the last out. But I remember standing up and watching the '04 ALCS G7 four feet in front of the TV. Mo was untouchable, and Boone's homer came on the first pitch ... Tim Wakefield threw.

Thanks for continuing to read, Hugh. Yeah, Swisher's postseason struggles are a concern, especially his strikeouts. Still, I can't help but think how quickly that record could turn around. Plus, I do like his regular season consistency. He's not streaky at all, and it's nice to balance guys who are, like A-Rod/Tex, with guys that aren't.

I see what you mean. Obviously, continuing the trend of catchers, Jorge Posada seems a lot more like a potential manager than Bernie. But who knows, you don't always need a grump/screamer at the helm.

I agree with you about bringing in Robertson last night, but I think their luck with RISP and loaded will change with more at-bats.
