I'm skeptical. I would suggest that instead this is the reaction of a religion in crisis, one that must challenge every apostasy with the equivalent of a fatwa. To me, the Democratic Party and the progressives are fascists on the order of the Peronists of Argentina and have deeply held beliefs, effectively religious, which are at odds with reality. In this case, their obsession with "Social Justice" and their devotion to libertine lifestyles are contradictory and every day brings more evidence of it.

It's kind of irrelevant in the big picture. The Greeks need a serious increase in both tourism and shipping to cover their debts and neither looks likely to happen. As Nouriel Roubini said in a recent panel discussion, Greece isn't illiquid and in need of a loan, they're insolvent and in need of a bankruptcy. The riots frightening away potential tourists just accelerates the inevitable, unless the ECB revs up the printing presses and starts buying government debt and shoving wads of cash into European banks.

I think we need Henry Waxman to call these greedmongers in to testify in front of Congress. Why, the very thought that more and more regulations might cause problems is outrageous!

Great post. I think you could go even farther back than 2000. If you look at education spending, we long ago passed the elasticity point of performance. Dittos for the War on Poverty. We're just spending money now, spending it to no effect.

High speed, light rail, anyone?

We've lost $100M on these coins? That's a rounding error of a rounding error in the Obama Administration.
