The Centers for Disease Control estimates that no more than 20 people a year die from pertussis in the U.S.
and this is not stating whether there are babies included or not.
Each year severe RSV disease can lead to approx. 400 deaths in infants, and casues up to 125,000 infant hospitalizations.
RSV is the leading cause of hospitalization of infants less than one year of age. http://pressroom.medimmune.com/wp-content/uploads...
What I do not understand is why is "whooping cough" getting all of the attention when there are more babies dying of RSV?
The vaccine seems to not be working either. Why in this day and age with the scientific and medical technology would this vaccine take 5 shots for a complete immunization?
2, 4, 6, and 15–18 months of age. A fifth shot, or booster dose, is recommended between age 4 and 6 years, unless the fourth dose was given late (after the fourth birthday).
And then again they say it wears off around 11 yrs of age and adults should get a booster as well? It just seems weird to me. People are getting "whooping cough" despite being vaccinated for it. Why don't they just have a vaccine exclusively for "whooping cough" if this epidemic is that bad ? At this point people should be asking questions on the efficiency of this vaccine.
There are a lot of things that young babies can get that can make them seriously ill and possibly kill them. As parents we need to make sure the people surrounding them and ourselves are healthy and clean. We need not expose them to questionable places such as supermarkets and populated public places too early. People should not touch babies and make sure they are not sick when coming in contact with young infants. If everyone did that the spread of disease would drop considerably.
