I know there has been some progress, but the last time a vote for legalization came around I was 17. I am 31 now. If I want to see this legal in my lifetime, I would rather just get it legalized first and work with the letter of the law afterwords.

The problem I have with voting no though is that I want to see progress for this. If we allow it to not pass, it is saying we don't want it legalized. If we vote yes, we can always modify it later. To top that off the officials would have to have probable cause to give someone a blood test. I have never been tested for illegal substances other than alcohol, and I wasn't driving. That is after being in three different car accidents, only one of which I was at fault.

Why incarcerate people for it if they aren't hurting anyone in the process? Why allow the government more freedom to take our freedoms away? If the crime does more damage from being a crime than the crime itself then it shouldn't be a crime.

On top of that, only the good looking girls in school could ever find someone over 21 to buy the alcohol without a fake id.

Actually a study was done that found that someone who had smoked a joint actually drove better than someone sober, of course once they smoked more than that they drove worse, but the point is smaller doses does not inhibit you, it makes you more aware and, shall I say it, paranoid.

I can understand not caring about something that does not directly effect you. Even though you may not use marijuana, it is a matter of freedom for the people to pursue their happiness when it does not hurt others in the process. To have our government interfere with what this country was founded on is in itself an outrage. We the people own this country, not the politicians, not the police, and certainly not the corporations and churches that think they are corporations. Even if you do not care about this issue personally, I hope you will care about your freedom to make your own decisions without government interference.

I would never persecute you for wanting to live the the lifestyle you choose as long as you don't persecute me for mine. I don't care if I expire a few years earlier if can live fully in the time I have without hurting others in the process. What I do behind closed doors hurts no one but me. I may not be a christian, but I do consider myself to be a good person. I help others in need, I try to uplift the people I am around, I don't hurt others, and I do my best to make sure when my time comes I have no regrets. I do smoke marijuana occasionally, an eighth can last me 3 months, and would like to see it legalized due to the fact it does have less negative affects than the other legal alternatives and helps me to see other perspectives of things I wouldn't have noticed without it. If used properly it can be a great thing. as with anything, legal or not, it can of course be used irresponsibly, but if someone is going to do that at least it is better to use marijuana irresponsibly then most other things.

I am sorry you took me to be quoting you. I merely considered your words as being hateful and full of contempt. I would hope that you don't hate someone just because they may like someone of the same sex. Personally, I could care less about "gay" marriage. I do however care very deeply about freedom when it doesn't hurt others, and I don't understand why it has taken as long as it has for people to realize who someone likes has no impact on me or anyone else. Just because there are people who are openly gay and get married to someone of the same sex doesn't mean that I will, or that my children will. If my children are open enough with themselves they will realize it doesn't matter who they like as long as they are happy. Personally I hope that it will help to start declassifying someone as straight or gay, because labels are counter-productive. Sure when you are in high school there are the skaters, jocks, preps, etc... but in the real world people shouldn't feel the need to be classified. Labels create barriers for what a person may be able to do or want to do. Say someone has said they are gay or have said they are straight, now they have to stick to that mold because that is what they have labeled themselves as. Say I said I couldn't do something well, I have just categorized myself as not being able to do something that I might have given enough practice. I know people say you are born a certain way, and this is true to a certain extent. Our bodies will naturally be aroused at sex, regardless of gender, due to the hardwired programming that we need to reproduce. If not, men who watch porn that was guy on girl wouldn't be able to be aroused due to there being a naked man, and woman wouldn't be able to get aroused due to another naked woman, but that just isn't how we are wired. We have however had social programming that tells us it is wrong and in turn we think it is wrong because that is what society has told us even though our bodies tell us otherwise and that can create a fear when our bodies are telling us yes but the brain says no so some people just fear it because it makes them uncomfortable at the thought.

Which proves the point some more that it wouldn't hurt "the institution of marriage". Thank you for doing such a great job defending something you stand against.

The point is that for those who marry, the mortality rate was only higher in the first few years, which means that they had a tendency to not be as promiscuous after marriage. So that means they do not give a bad name to marriage. So in turn you have just proven the point that there is nothing wrong with allowing them to marry, and that it would be beneficial to our society because there would become less death if they had the opportunity to marry before contracting something.
