I have got a 3GS with old Boortom...and running on 4.0.1 and 05.13.04 baseband...

i do need the unlock via Ultrasn0w....

is there an easy and best way for me to upgrate to latest version/with or without updating the baseband (I dont have an access to mac)?

Or i have to be contend with 4.0.1 for now?

I have a 3GS old Bootroom running on 4.0.1 (Jailbroken and Unlocked using ultrasn0w)...

so If I understand correctly from the above post/updates is that I can go to 4.2.1 (using the official apple ipsw)? and then Jailbreak with redsn0w and unlock using ultrasn0w?

is that correct?

A quick question for all the gurus and experts:

If I buy an iPhone 4 in canada and pay the carrier to officially unlock it (I have heard we can do that in Canada) and bring it back to US, do I still need to worry about locking it down again with future Official IPSW updates? I know I will have to worry about getting it JB (As I would want to get it jailbroken).

Sorry if this has ben asked again. I have abeen out of this world for quite a while now . The last update I made was to 4.0.1 on my 3GS... so am sort of starting all over again.

Doesnt matter whethr you are in India/US. 3GS with new bootrom is not jailbreakbale/unlockable as yet. Well saving th SHSH is a good idea... nothing to loose...

Original SIM will be required if you want to activate it using iTuns/Apple process, othersise you can always hacktivate it whenever the tools for 3GS New bootrom and 4.0 are released.

My 3GS is on 4.0 and I have my SHSHs saved from 3.1 onwards on Cydia (pressed, make my life easier). So would Cydia/Daurik automatically grab and save SHSHs for my 4.0? I understand it would do (even though it doesnt display on Cydia), but wanted to be 100% sure.

Is there a way to save my SHSHs for 4.0 other than tinyumbrella? I have SHSHs already saved for 3.1.2 and 3.1.3 (i pressed the "make my life easier" button).

The reason I ask is because when 3.1.3 came out I didnt do anything but still the SHSHs were saved automatically. Is this not true for 4.0?

If it was upgraded to 4.0 using the custom restore files from Pwnage tool, then should be a normal restore in recovery mode. If it was upgraded to 4.0 direct from Apple, then its a whole another story.

These are my 2 cents, but do wait till the expert (Kiran) agrees/dis-agrees with the same.
