Actually, my point was that carpets/rugs are ubiquitous, just like paint on walls, and light fixtures, and any other element that goes into the design of any room, anywhere. On the other hand, using the coffee table in exactly the same way as someone else used it in this challenge is a ripoff. She cut off the legs in exactly the same way, positioned the table in exactly the same location (except that hers isn't level), and even used the graphic line around the room in (almost) exactly the same way that Rob did. The only substantial difference in Tashica's design versus Rob's was the color. (And BTW, David's room was 3 years ago, not last year.)

Cheating? Really?? I don't remember her asking anyone to help her, but I do remember her making a point to give credit to Antonio and Torie for their kindness. Would a "cheater" acknowledge help from anyone? Lonni's design certainly doesn't measure up to some of the others, but I don't think it's "fair" to label her a cheater.

Sorry, but all rooms have floors (and usually some sort of floor treatment such as a "carpet," or tile, or hardwood, or whatever). But, all rooms do not have rectangular lightboxes hanging in the center of a wall.

Not much of a revision - placement, same; lighting, same; graphic lines leading to it, virtually the same. The only thing she "revised" was the color. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I agree with you. The paint was great (although I hated the colors), but real creativity was definitely lacking in his final design. Even the furniture placement was boring....zzzzz.

I agree with the judges' top 3 - and the order as well. Have to say that Torie really surprised me in a good way. Definitely didn't expect such a different approach from her, and the result translated really well on camera - happy, happy! Nathan's wall treatment and chandelier came across as stunning in the reveal, and the sofa also came off beautifully through the camera lens which was unexpected based on what it looked like while he was working on it. However, I do have to say that I thought his use of the white candles didn't come off well at all. I get why he chose to use them the way he did, but in the end they virtually disappeared and actually detracted from the final result in my view. I think he could have done some cool things with the oranges as candelabra or maybe used orange candles instead - either one would have looked more sophisticated and finished.

But Dan. Wow. I can't find a flaw. Even better, I'm having fun trying to figure out which pieces of the final room cam from which pieces of the original furniture. I think he's the one.

Can't remember what happened in the kitchen challenge during season 1, but in seasons 2 & 3 (as well as this year, of course), getting that gold star is the kiss of death. Everyone understands that being able to lead a team is an invaluable skill for anyone who wants this job; however, trying to lead a team of designers is like trying to lead a team of cats. I hate to state the obvious, but this show is about design, and these people are designers, not skilled tradespeople (for the most part). Those who didn't have construction skills were at a clear disadvantage in this challenge, and because of that the results had no chance of being anything other than dissatisfying for everyone from the homeowners to the viewing public. Watch out future Design Star hopefuls, if you have the bad luck to be selected as a team leader on the kitchen design, your chances of being eliminated go from 1 in 10, to 1 in 2. By the same token, your team mates are all safe no matter how dreadful their performance.

You hit the nail on the head. I'm married to a New Yorker, and they can be intense, but there's a difference between "sticking to your guns" and being just plain rude. When Vern asked who came up with the pink geese idea, I thought it was telling that Antonio missed a beat (or 2) before he would own it. That, followed by the "I told you so" smile paints a very unattractive picture for me.

I think it's clear that the designers voted in the weakest of the 3 "alternates," which to my mind doesn't say much about their confidence in their own design chops. Torie's work is nice, but too safe for my taste. Alyssa's work is very bold (which I like), but seems to be all of a piece - I'd say she's a "one trick pony." Gary is the most intriguing to me - I like his color sense, and his designs seem to have more depth and complexity. He get's my vote.

Definitely love to see Candice there - not so with Genevieve; I thought she was sneering and negative. Love the idea of having David B. as a judge - would be great to have the best of the previous DesignStar winners participating; someone who's actually been through the process and knows what it takes.
