You are right by saying it's not Google's fault that I have contacts all over the map. I have not tried to share my location with them. It doesn't make much sense. If I was visiting that city, it would.

Now, for my local contacts, it's a bit different. I stated that it's a new service and i'm hoping that the status thing will catch on. It's crucial for a service like latitude to be successful. In addition, I'm hoping that Google will integrate a way to 'check in' to local businesses as part of the package. For example, if my friend Suzie lives in the suburbs and I see in Latitude that she is in the downtown area- that alone doesn't give me enough info. Upon arrival, Google may eventually offer a list of venues to check into (via GPS proximity) that would display on the users profile to others when chosen in Latitude. With this, status updates would become less necessary, but would still be helpful to friends. So now, at a glance, you could see Suzie is 'downtown' at The Sky Bar 1800 Main St.- and has updated her status to say something like "with George and Lisa grabbing a cocktail". Even with the status update, the 'check in' becomes the more important piece of information. It would also be great if Google added in a messaging platform to Latitude to ping your friends on the go.

Thanks for your comment, Lisav. I think we just have to be patient for this to become something awesome.
