Some day... when I actually get a Netbook, I'm definitely giving the UNR a whirl. Although Windows 7 is a damn nice OS. But Karmic is so slick looking and actually "feels" good to use. It's the first desktop Linux release that has actually been really tight in my opinion. That hundred paper cuts project has done wonders for user interface and usability.
WD, Thanks for the compliment on the site. I, for one, am glad that you got a MacBook and began writing online. I'm looking forward to your return, but I am enjoying the week of Writer Mom's perspective. She's passionate about education, and I believe we need more people like you and her in the United States to make our education system better. Never put down your pen (or your Mac). Be well.
It becomes more and more functional for you the longer you have it. Of course, any well-designed gadget can become integral to your daily routine, so I'm not trying to push it on you. The iPhone is certainly worth getting. Of course, there may be some new hardware announced this summer, so don't jump the gun. At the very least, I can see them offering a higher capacity 32GB model if not something with more bells and whistles.
Actually, as long as the domain name doesn't change, you should not need to export the comments. IntenseDebate stores the comments in their database so it should be as simple as installing the WordPress plug-in. Of course, I'm not sure what field they reference for tying comments to the posts. If it is title, don't change those, but I have a hunch they reference the post ID in which case, just make sure you make matching IDs for each of the new WordPress posts. A pain in the butt either way, it sounds like. Hmm...
Ah! Export the comments to the WP comment system and then pull them back into IntenseDebate? Hmm... seems like that might be just as problematic. In any case, good luck and don't lose my comments! :)
Thanks, Hayden! Aside from this wicked flu/cold/somethingreallyawful which refuses to go lightly, life is on an upswing. We have a lovely vacation planned in April as well, so that adds to the fun.
Thank you, WD. Yes, the engagement is still such an amazing feeling to me. I know that the wedding will be even more awesome. Meeting the right person after all of these years and having such a wonderful life with her is terribly fulfilling. There are no words to describe it. At least not in my meager vocabulary.
Thank you, Matthew. The environment is a bit of a culture shock, but that's only because of the size difference in the organization. I'm adapting fairly well.
Thank you very much. Everything is exciting and overwhelming all at once.
Exactly. Textbook case of good web design. Hell, just good user interface design.
That's a fun version of "Let My Love Open the Door". Doesn't beat the Pete Townshend original, but still pretty good. After seeing the movie "Dan in Real Life", that's all the song reminds me of now. Good movie, by the way.
