Personally, I think with the Soviet Union joining the war, it would have lasted another 6 months to a year. They were definitely a force that Japan could not, and would not be able to hold off. Would have us as Americans suffered more causalities? Of course, but the number of Japanese, Soviet Union, and United States troops that died would have been far less than the 100,000 that vanished due to the atom bombs. Sure Japan was our enemy during World War II, but does that mean all the civilians in that country are our enemies too? Was it right for the United States to purposely not bomb Hiroshima so they could have a good scale of the damage the atom bomb creates? We are, and always have been a country who likes to flex our military muscles, and I believe the atom bomb was one military muscle that was not needing to be flexed.
