These guys used to be on MAD TV and were really good, so I thought I would give the new show a chance. I agree - it is unwatchable. It is totally not funny - not in the "Hey, they should not be joking about that" sense, but in the crickets chirping "I don't get it" sense.
I don't have a problem with Gilbert Gottfried's jokes, and I don't have a problem with Aflac firing him, but I do have a problem with Aflac acting like they got railroaded by Gilbert Gottfried being Gilbert Gottfried. Now they are having Gilbert Gottfried auditions to voice the duck, so they aren't so offended as to totally divorce themselves from this situation and sacrfice a popular ad campaign. I don't know how many Twitter followers Gottfried has, but I have been frequenting his facebook page since this has become big news, and there are less people there than have died in this terrible mess that is happening in Japan. In perspective, nobody gave a damn until a few offended people decided to amplify the situation.
I don't think Gilbert Gottfried gets enough credit. It takes an extraordinary amount of discipline to ALWAYS try and say the thing that will get you into the most trouble. Most people just don't have the guts for it.
I would have to say that Plan 9 is better than Citizen Kane. That may not have been true even as recently as ten or twenty years ago, but as time goes by Plan 9 holds up better than Citizen Kane. Plan 9 will never be anything but a goofy, iconic "horror" movie from the 50's. As time goes by and people forget who William Hearst and Orson Welles were, Citizen Kane will become a well filmed meaningless mess.
Funny thing about this particular Justin Bieber episode - it was the CSI team beating and shooting people. Sarah spent half the episode with a broken hand after beating one of the "tea partiers", and Nick unloaded his service pistol into the "tea party" bad guy and then tried to reload before being stopped. In order to fight the cartoonish "tea party" activists, the main characters have become cartoonish "fascist pigs".
I find the tweets disappointing. I wish he would have gone Penn Jillete's route and just said that the world is oversaturated with Palin jokes and attacks, so he won't be doing any. But I can understand what he's doing here - if he chickens out and pulls a punch, even once, then his whole career implodes and everything has just been a complete waste of time.
I can totally understand why people would be offended by this, but Louis CK's whole shtick is to be as absolutely offensive as possible. If you are offended by what he's done, then he has done his job well. But, if you think Leno or anyone else that associates with him is scum, then you would have to include the USO. You can go to Louis CK's youtube channel and see videos of him performing at various FOB's in Iraq - much to our troops delight.
Somehow this makes the film crew seem even meaner. It is obvious in the video that the lights are easy enough to point in different directions. Even if the protestors were there just to be obnoxious, it would be the easiest thing in the world to point the light in a different direction and then wait for the police. This is like saying that if a hippy chains themself to a tree to protest logging, the loggers are free to bulldoze the tree because it is the hippy's responsibilty to get out of the way to prevent injury.
Perhaps the reason the mormons are against gay marriage is because they had to totally restructure their church doctrine and redefine marriage as being between one man and one woman in order for Utah to become a state.
What is funny is when an actor comes out of the closet and then you go back and watch an earlier, "straight" performance. I watched The Green Berets over the memorail day weekend, and was amazed at what a total bad ass George Takei was.
