I didn't address Ames as I didn't see the point. Ames doesn't have a lots of things Iowa City has, you know like a law school, a med school, a pharmacy school, a writers work shop, culture, hamburg inn, the mill, a ped mall, an old capital. Each city is different, and unique, not sure just because one does and the other doesn't means either is right, or wrong.

Are you aware of the difference in the demographic in Iowa City and CR, and I would say that the IC music scene is head and shoulders above that of CR, especially considering the size difference of the two communities.
