There is no shared border between Russia and Iran.

Iran does share borders with former Soviet republics Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Turkmenistan.

This is complete bush-league reporting. I certainly do not expect to see an Antiwar staffer parroting the same misinformation that is slung around in the mainstream media.

As the above posts have already pointed out, the referendum had nothing to do with allowing Zelaya to run for re-election. The referendum was about asking the people if they wanted to start a process of constitutional change, something that must be viewed in the context of several decades of government clawbacks of people's rights.

And now the same thugs who removed a democratically elected leader at gunpoint, and then forged a letter of "resignation" claim that the victim of their coup was planning to rig the referendum. Yeah right.

It is completely asinine to report that the source of this clearly bogus accusation are simply "officials," which lends credibility and neutrality to this preposterous lie. Ditz did not even bother to note that these "officials" are the same coup regime that is considered illegitimate by every nation in the UN, including the US.

Yet he comes off as if he is trying his best to make them look legitimate. This is simply unacceptable journalism. I have noticed this kind of questionable news writing (rewriting really, since he doesn't actually do any original research or interviewing himself) a number of times already.

I think it is time for this clown to go. There are lots of bright young journalists out there who would love this job and would do it justice. I for one am not going to give antiwar.com another penny. This is too much.

This is a great article. It is really astounding/frightening to simply watch a little American TV and get even a small glimpse of what passes for political discourse.

There is not one sane person to be found or heard. It is like listening to severely delusional patients in an insane asylum. A case in point is the discussion about Iran that has been filling the airwaves for years now. The discussion revolves entirely around Iran's supposed "threat" to both the US and Israel, which, on its face, should be regarded as completely laughable by any person with even a modicum of reason.

And this unreal discussion comes AFTER the Iraqi WMD was shown to be a giant spoof. How stupid and delusional is the American intelligentsia? This kind of mass psychosis is absolutely unprecedented. Even the Third Reich maniacs look like clear, lucid thinkers in comparison.

So just to sum in broad strokes, we have endless dialogue about a nonexistent "threat" from Iran, coming hot on the heels of what was shown to be a non-existent threat from Iraq -- but we invaded anyway. And then there is Russia, which is undemocratic despite the fact that its political leaders enjoy overwhelming popular support. Then there is China, where there are supposedly no human rights, but America has ten times as many of its citizens behind bars, per capita.

But I see all of this this as really great news. Why? Because nature teaches us that mental incompetence is weeded out through natural selection. Those with defective mental ability do not survive. I look forward to the day when I can turn on my TV set and see normal, sane people discussing real issues in an intelligent way.
