I thought that when Sam talked about the shamans and their spiritual healing and meditating abilities I found it really amazing. I do believe, to a certain degree, in that kind of spirituality and that there is this "other" world out there that most of us cannot even comprehend. For example, when he was talking about the shaman that healed his sprained ankle, I think that these medical practices contain some truths to them and it's not all just a big fake magic trick. These men dedicate their lives to meditating and finding a way to communicate with higher powers through the use of hallucinogenic drugs that can open up these doors within your mind to truly see some special things.
I think that having a normal education at an institution is more beneficial and there is more structure to it. I'm not saying that shamans are all bullshit though. People have been known to go and search out these people in hopes of getting healed over traditional medicines. Personally I would like to travel one day and go out and meet one of these people and learn more from them about how they live and go about learning through the spirits of the earth. It's always interesting to see the points of view of different people that have very different styles of living.
Knowing that these shamans are still around today and still practice their spiritual beliefs is cool. To live in a modernized world and not use the technologies that are at your disposal is special. They blatantly disregard the modern world and live like they do instead of going to prestigous universities or colleges.

From just being a student here at Penn State I've seen how evil and good can be represented in a single community. On one hand you have Jerry Sandusky that obviously has mental problems and sexually abuses little kids. Then he tries to come out and say that he is innocent even after there has been numerous evidence and people testifying against him. Then there was the student response to the entire situation where Joe Paterno was fired and the riots happened on Beaver Avenue. Although this was what the media wanted to show it gave people outside of the Penn State community the wrong idea about what our opinions were. Other people saw it as mindless drunken acts of stupidity, but what they weren't aware of is how small the acts of violence and destruction were. There was little mention of the community response to the actual victims of Jerry and more focus on who was at blame, which was put on the person in power, Joe Paterno. There needs to be a distinction between who was to blame and who was actually at fault and guilty of doing the crime. I'm proud to say that almost my entire family came to Penn State and that me and my twin attend here now. Not even the scandal can change my mind about the inegrity of this university or the people that are faculty and students here.
