Boo-ya to the residents of Kauai for a job well done!

This is exactly why Obama should take the advice of Congressman Paul Ryan from Hannity's America tonight (Special: 6 Ways to Save America) in regards to our economy. These guys took an investment, though risky, because they knew it would bring dividends. But, I wonder if it's going to be worth it to them in the long run when Obama taxes the daylights out of them because they're small business owners. Will they be willing to do something like this again after the taxings, or will they just let their community rot because it isn't worth it to them to invest the money to make the extra dollar later? Find out in the next episode of "Destroying America in 100 Days or Less!"

BTW, I don't know if 9-12 literature is being sent for free to those who are willing to distribute it, but being a poor college student strapped for cash, if I can get it for free somehow, I'd be more than happy to distribute it! Otherwise, I'll just have to stick to my sign.

Talk to your local media yourself about getting the event covered (assuming it's worth covering?)

Link doesn't work. I think Obama's test on "cybersecurity" worked on you. ;-) In all seriousness though, this isn't a shocker. I have no doubts as I got Madison this next Wednesday that there will be PLENTY of brainwashed lefties from UW-Madison assembled with us on State Street to try and disrupt proceedings. It's all gravy to me. I'll just make it clear to any reporters that I talk to that the crazies are people who don't understand the concept of "peaceable assembly" and are probably just angry that I don't like their post-modern idea of their being no absolutes (but wait- isn't that statement than stating that a lack of absolute truth is an absolute truth? Oh the logical conundrum this creates!!).

I'm disappointed that the Tea Party in Madison is being sponsored by the Republican Party, but I will be attending with signs representing myself as a 9-12'er, not a Republican! Anyone else in the Madison, WI area attending, also?

Actually, in my community our Chamber's of Commerce gift certificates have watermarks on them to help reduce (if not completely stop it all together) counterfeiting. I don't think it would be that hard for a local government agency to get their hands on it seeing as how they probably already use watermarked paper to write checks for their employees.

Actually, this does work quite well with communities. It's no different than how schools will contract with local businesses to buy gift certificates. For example, the local Culver's sells "Scrip" money to one of the local elementary schools (which is a tax write off for the Culver's owner) for say, $250, but the school gets it for 10% off (therefore, they only pay $225 to Culver's). Then, the school sells the Scrip for it's full value, and the school makes $25 off of the scrip that was purchased to go towards whatever project or budget need the scrip money is designated for (in most school districts that I've seen this done in, it's usually fine arts). Meanwhile, since the scrip that was purchased was in the form of a Culver's gift card, the money can only be spent at Culver's, which encourages local business growth. The only difference between this and the system this article is talking about is that Culver's isn't the one giving away the gift card- the local government is in the form of a "Chamber's of Commerce" type gift certificate (which my town has, also). The only difference between the Chamber's of Commerce gift certificate and the "local currency" is that it's called currency instead of a gift certificate, at least, that's how it appears to me.

I do whole heartedly agree that for communities to do this on such a large scale (i.e.- the community that is printing it off in agreement with almost 300 local businesses) definitely shows that this is a symptom of the bigger problem- our country's politicians choosing to attempt to spend their way out of debt (which, for obvious reasons, can't work).

Tried the link. Didn't work. Youtube says it's a malformed video id.
