So police know this:
"Police say several people were arguing near the intersection when one of the men took out a gun and opened fire on the group"
But don't know this:
"There is no detailed description of the shooter."

I fear it's scenerio #1: "hide the kids in a shed and go get high" kinda thing.

I agree. I do wish people would just live and let live. The only reason I am even voicing my opinion, is because I fear some will go to the extreme and raise their children the way they wish the world really was and not prepare the child for the way the world really is.

I (and my wife) raised two daughters. Both are successful and one is married. They are healthy and happy. So do you have kids or just books?
"Socially accepted stereotypes? " well yes. Isn't that what a society is? As much as I would personally like to stick my middle finger up to society, I do see the benefits of fitting into it. Not preparing your child to fit into society is a major injustice to that child.

I tend to disagree. So what do you tell a little boy who was allowed to wear dresses and play with dolls when he gets into school and gets picked on? I know it's not fair but it is reality. We can all pretend that everyone is open minded and no one picks on anyone else, but isn't that really just a fantasy? Why do we act like it's so wrong to actually prepare our kids for the realities of life? At the very least tell your child that you think it is ok if they play with dolls and wear makeup, but please at least WARN them that everyone isn't like you and they probably will get picked on. What do you say when they grow older and ask why they weren't told of "social norms"?

I don't know her circumstances, so I do not feel qualified to say if it is abuse or not.
I do find it ironic that in the news there is also a young woman who is in trouble for her young child getting out of her house 4 times. So in one story a family tries to keep kids safe and inside, but it's to extreme, and in the other case, the woman doesn't seem to have any "preventative measures" to keep her kid inside and she's in trouble. Apparently there is some "middle ground" that we as a society have decided is the acceptable way to go. Can someone tell me what it is?

Since we are playing what if's:

If Zimmerman hadn't got out of his car Trayvon might have broke into someones house to rob them and the family may have came home during the robbery and Trayvon may have beat therm to death (MMA style).

In that "What If" scenerio, Zimmerman saved a whole family.
