. I really don't know what i can do to be able to help immigrants but im sure that every little thing would count at this point. They come here with very little and sometimes they dont have anything but the clothes on their backs. This is very disheartening to hear and see and also to have people that hate immigrants because they are too naive or just plain racist to new immigrants that they believe are causing problems. True that we from all the people trying to get into the US we cant' accept all of them but we should never shut the doors to people trying to make their lives better. Putting myself in their position i would really like someones help in a brand new country where i know nbody and have nothing and everything is new.

These are the kinds of people that may one day hold a high job and they would never have been discovered if they did not get the opportunity to succeed in life. People born in america get so many more opportunities than many other countries that have extreme poverty. We owe it to some of these people to give them a chance at prosperity. The statue of liberty shows this as an example shown in the poem that says give me your poor. If we never let people int hen we would not have the minds that we may have today. Albert Einstein was an immigrant and he was a key playerin basically ending ww2 with other foreign scientists.

i think that iw ould help out the poor immigrants that come to the united states. Of fcourse there is a big difference between actually helping the immigrants and saying that you will help the immigrants. Thius nationas was founded completely on immigration. Because people came later than sooner means that they don't get the same opportunities that the people before them got. Like sam said about the mexican immigrants, they will help their family but once all their family is in then they will close the door behind them for everyone else. Since people are constantly coming in the country, i beleive that some people will allways think that the immigrants are taking their jobs but many of these people really do not understand what the mechanics of immigration really are. The video of the rant guy got me very angry because this guy probably has no research behind his rants and is going off what he sees other people say or just making things up because he thinks something is happening that really isnt. Like sam said again, the people that are coming into america are not lazy, htese are the motivated people that will work very hard to get ahead and help themselves and their family.

The video where the soldiers ran over the man's car with no remorse and they were joking about it and laughing. This was appalling to me and made me feel sick to my stomach that there are a couple soldiers over there basically ruining peoples lives. I could not believe what i was seeing and i thought i was dreaming and i was going to wake up and it wasn't going to be real. Our tax dollars are going to the military to fight a war that is only for oil and soldiers are over there doing this? They should be court marshaled. Knowing that these kinds of things happen over there just is absurd. After Sam put us in the mind set of being an Iragi, I felt anger towards the US for doing this. I I can see why people over there revolt against the US when they see things like this happening to fellow countrymen and like sam said, people share the videos with each other and become angry at the US even though there are many soldiers that are good and keep the peace and follow the rules. After seeing this video, I have to wonder what their superiors are doing about this and if they are going to get reprimanded. There needs to be closer supervision on these kinds of soldiers or they need to be discharged from the military. If i were a soldier over there and saw this happening i would not let it stand. The iragi people have been exploited for their oil and we come and invade them and destroy their cars for stealing fire wood? After seeing this it definitely made an impact on me and i can see how the iraqi people have such hostility towards the US in some parts where these kinds of things are happening. I can see how soldiers become on edge over there under pressure and constant fire, but doing this and having no moral code while doing these types of activities is not acceptable. These people are just like us and they want to live and be real like we are, but when things like this happen, they think differently and change their minds and they end up hating us for things that a couple people do. When seeing this, i think that people need to become aware of what goes on in irag and seeing this people wil be able to see that we are ruining people lives in a minute and large way in some random times. In summation,. seeing this video opened my eyes to why the iraqi people sometimes do not like us. When we see people dying and know that these are the reasons why they are dying, it makes me sick and we need to change this for the future. There needs to be set rules and procedure, although this already exist, but these are the reasons why these people dont like us, just as we dont like other people.

61 weeks ago @ World In Conversation - Would you date someone... · 0 replies · +1 points

I would. When it comes to girls there really isnt a race issue with me. It all comes down to personality and things in common, and attractiveness plays a role as well. My family wouldn't have a problem with me bringing home a girl that was of a different race than me, which is white. I would actually welcome the opportunity to date a black girl or a latino girl or even an indian girl. I guess dating outside of white girls would be exciting and different for me. However, i really don't get many opportunities to talk to girls from different races. On the weekend when i go out and socialize with my fraternity, we usually hang out with girls that are mostly white sorority girls. I would love if one weekend we socialized with a group of different race girls. It would be interesting and we would probably see that they are more fun then the boring usual crowd of girls. I think that people date people of their own race mostly because they are readily available and we date people that we have grown up around and look like us and who think like we do and who have the same culture or even beliefs. We like to date and feel comfortable doing it so we stick with dating people of the same race to not disturb the normality of things. We don't want people to think of us as different or un -normal for dating a person of a different race. So we stick with the safe path and do not go outside our comfort zone and take a chance on a new and could be better thing. I do not really think like this because when it comes to dating there is no barrier for me. If i like the girl and the girl likes me then we are A ok in my book. People might look at us differently and stare but i wouldn't mind, i would just ignore it. I know my friends would think of it as interesting and some would even think its cool. Interracial couple confuse some people, and these people were probably brought up in an environment where it was looked down upon to have a mixed race couple. Or maybe it is unfamiliar because they grew up with all one race and never really saw two different races dating each other. Now i believe it is be coming more normal or acceptable to date outside your race and people will start doing it more and more and someday it will be thought of as completely normal and no one will think twice about seeing two people of different races dating each other.

I have never really thought about being white prior to coming to penn state. I went to an all boys catholic school with very little racial diversity. I never really came in contact with race problems. Through grade school one of my best friends was actually black, although he was adopted and has a white mom who lives in the suburbs. The city i came from was mostly white also. My neighborhood was mostly white as well. When ever something bad happened to me or i was given a good opportunity i never attributed it to me being a white male because pretty much most people were white already and i wasn't compared to the other white people racially. Mostly i have attributed everything i have done with my life to either knowing someone who helped me out or because i worked hard to get the things i want, never because of my white skin. At penn state however it is a little different. There is much more diversity here and after being in this class my eyes have opened a little bit to the world and other peoples lives and how much race actually affects everyday life. Looking back to living in my home town, is still don;t think my white skin had much to do with the options given to me there, but here where there is much more diverse races, i can't help but think some of the good things that have come about in my college every day life may be because of my white skin and the so called white privilege. Seeing and hearing some peoples stories in the discussion group makes me realize and wonder how this white privilege came about and how whites get treated better in some ways then other races and minorities. I don't like to think my skin has to do with some of my successes in life but now after this class i basically have to say that in some cases me being white actually had a lot to do with some of them. In other cases however, being white has it's disadvantages. It was brought up in discussion about applying to college and how minorities usually have the upper hand because colleges need to fill their minority quota for students so they may be more likely to take a minority over a white person with the same exact grades. This is just a small example and i can't really think of many more examples where being white has a disadvantage which may be bad but it is cruel and true. Blacks and whites should have the exact same opportunities but in some way deep sown even employers may be being racist even if they are not trying to be.

It is extremely selfish for people to have more kids. If you do not have the money to support hem then do not have them. You want your children to grow up in a safe environment and give them the best resources possible. It is your responsibility as a parent to raise them right. You bring them into the world so take responsibility for what you do so the child does not suffer for your stupid and poor decision. Poor white people definitely have a lot of kids for either because they are idiots or because they want to use your kids to get more welfare money and be lazy. This is the most selfish thing to do. Using a child as an object to receive money as you just have more and more of them. These people should all be sterilized and neutered.

i think it absolutely has to do with where the arrests are made and where there are more police officers enforcing areas. If they are patrolling urban areas and poorer areas than they are more likely to arrest a minority. Also drug dealers may be on the street selling in obvious spots while other drug dealers may be selling out of their houses in less conspicuous spots or harder to find spots. Also, crime is not racist. If you are breaking the law and get caught then you deserve to go to jail or fined or what ever the case may be. Now it might be a different case in the court room when it comes time for sentencing, depending on the jury. I believe this is where the racism may come into play. When a person is sentenced less harshly than another person who committed the same exact crime. This is where it is unjust and therefore racism could be called into play. But if someone is breaking the law and gets caught and if the police are making their arrests in more urban areas where the crime rate is higher, then it is basically just a coincidence that there are more blacks being arrested.

67 weeks ago @ World In Conversation - Do we have a responsib... · 0 replies · +1 points

We do have a responsibility to fix inequality due to the sole fact that we have a social disposition to help each other. When we think selfishly we are only hurting the human race as a whole. Working together to create a better life for each person in a way that benefits all. Social justice principles teach us this and of the levels of maturity. The simple truth is that most people never reach a high level of maturity. A famous quote about this subject would be "do not ask for whom the bell tolls, it tolls for thee" which is telling of a person dying, but the truth is when someone is feeling an injustice or negative effects of life, then the rest of humanity is suffering at the same time. Everyone is in this haul together, there is not a single person that has an exception to responsibility for the human race. People of privilege who are born into money or with better opportunities than most have the biggest responsibility to make a change. They can influence others and have the connections and resources to make a significant differences for those whop may not have the same opportunities and the same resources at their disposal to make their own lives better. I'm not saying that lesser off people can only count on the help of better off people to make their lives better, they can surely make their own lives better if they have the willingness to. Everyone has a responsibility to each other and selfishness has no place in this world. It is because of selfishness that inequality exists all over the world in absurd numbers. Having a low percentage of people controlling a high percentage of the worlds wealth should not happen. That wealth needs to be spread around to make the quality of life for more people better. And also a quote from spider man "with great power comes great responsibility" is surely talking to people who are better off to step up and make a change for the better. When a certain group of people have all the power and control, then the lesser group doesn't have any control to an extent. The powerful people need to make the move to change and become less selfish and spread the wealth around like butter on a piece of toast. So, yes, we do have a responsibility to fix inequality.

I think that people hang out with the same race and ethnicities because people like to hang out with other people just like themselves. People like to feel comfortable around their friends so they search fort people they believe with fill that comfort level. I have to admit that i usually hang around with people of my same race and ethnic background for the most part. It can get boring and sometimes i do reach out and extend my friendships to other races to exit my comfort zone and take a chance on someone that i do not have that much in common with racially or ethnically. People make friendships based on common likes and dislikes and i think that people with the same background will tend to like the same things for often than people who do not share the same beliefs and backgrounds. I have met many people from other countries that i can hang out with because in a sense, they are just like me and even though they may live across the ocean they still share many of the same likes and dislikes as i do. Having friends outside of your racial group says a lot about someones character showing that they can take chances and are willing to leave their comfort zone and racial obstacles behind to make new friends.
