That's a good point, and not a bad idea. Personally, my opinion-even as a person who's been charged as a level 2, though nobody in their right mind can see how the courts could justify such a thing-is that most of these guys, and even some of the women, should just be terminated because as studies have and history have shown, the majority of these predators can't be changed regardless of the extent of any treatment that they take.
But, in addition, i'd also like to add that there are many of these sex offenders, the predators that have been rightly convicted and just tend to have a generally creepy aura about them, that I'd be the first in line to terminate if given the chance. I may've been forced to wear a messed up label by a court that can't play by the rules, but I also have women and children in my life who I'd go to any ends to keep safe.
In response to your statement about homeless sex offenders, these are the ones who get tracked the most, they're required to register with the sheriff's office weekly-if they don't, the Failure to Register charge they're hit with is often greater than their initial sentence. Even most halfway houses won't rent to them because of the negative view that society puts on Sex Offenders as a whole. I know this first hand, I've been one of them for years now because of that label.
In many cases, I'd have to agree with you, however, as has been noted already, the prosecutors and lawmakers have turned whatever they can into a sex offense. It's almost a joke, if not for the fact that they've made it easier on the real predators to slip into the cracks. I agree that the GPS does no good. They got lucky in this case, but those things are so faulty that they can't really be relied on. They've been known to lose signal or give false readings-ie: coordinates in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean while the person wearing it is standing in the Clark County Sheriff's Office.
I agree that this man should get the maximum punishment, he's already had one chance after prison and has screwed it up, now a little girl who had her whole life ahead of her is dead. Yet, I must advise some of you who are getting on ALL sex offenders for the actions of this one freak to take a closer look into the way the halls of "justice" in this town work. I was labeled a sex offender years ago because it's the only way the prosecutor could get his burglary conviction to stick-in effect changing the rules of evidence and putting the burden on me to prove my innocence- I've done my time and do nothing but try to get a somewhat normal life back in a society that looks at me just like this scum, because of a label. I'll tell you right now, "sex offender" or not, I think this crime was a heinous tragedy and I'd be the first to take this guy out, especially after a confession. Save myself and all other taxpayers some valuable dollars in court expenses- since we all know a homeless man's not going to be paying for his own lawyer..I for one know that this guy'll get what he deserves whether it's in the courtroom or the prison yard.
