I would think it has to be a completely separate ballot. You can't include it on a primary ballot because independents will also be eligible to vote in the Special Election. So Democrats and Republicans will have to vote twice on two different ballots. One for the Special Election and one for their respective party primary.

I agree that Russell needs to be serious about his campaign, and when he goes out and tells people that Peg Luksik can both run for the Senate and run his campaign, it shows a great lack of professionalism and sincerity. Maybe that is why his fundraising is such an issue -- a true professional manager would never let that happen.

Because of Pennsylvania election law and the rules of both parties, the "party establishment" will pick the two candidates. One by the Democrat Executive Committee among people who don't live in the district. The other by Republicans who live in the distirct. Burns and Russell should both be lining up conferee support. Neither candidate made the rules or created the process, but it is the process.

Not only are his polls unreliable, but I have to wonder if Russell embrace the Zogby brothers' political views?

If Russell is so polished, why did he lose by almost 20-points in a district McCain won in 2008? In fact, it is the only district in the country that Kerry won and Obama lost. Russell should have been within at least 5-points.

I don't care about what he had on the website. I care about his continuing attacks on Murtha on the site. As a local too, I care about the fact that Russell moved to Johnstown to run against Murtha. Burns -- like many conservative activist -- was outraged at the spending over the last year and was motivated to run for Congress in the district he was raised and lives. That is the real difference and that alone makes Burns the better candidate to take on Critz who will try to run as the Murtha legacy candidate.

Russell has 51% name id in this poll and is getting less than 40% of the vote in this survey. That is why we need someone else -- Russell can't win. He has no message now that Murtha is not the opponent. This race matters to the region, party and country. We have to get it right. Those are the real facts bubba!

True enough it is on the Freedom Defense Fund's site, and I am certain the Russell team just happened to find it there. So let's review the real facts of the poll:

1) We don't know the universe. Is this likely GOP primary voters, all voters or something in between?
2) Russell's name id is 51%
3) Burns' name id is 28%

After running for Congress for three years and losing by almost 20-points, Bill Russell is getting less than 40% of the vote among voters that a majority know him. He can't and won't get to 50% in a primary and therefore can't win a general election against Critz, Hafer or whoever the Dems put up.

This seems to me to be a desperate attempt to stop the bleeding by the Russell campaign. Those are the real facts.

The poll was paid for by a 527 Group called Freedom's Defense Fund which shares an office with Russell's direct mail venrdor BMW Direct that has been named Base Direct. It is interesting that the Russell campaign recieved a copy of thi poll to tout in their press release when it was an Independent Expenditure by a 527. So much for ethics and accountability from the Russell campaign.
