Agree and I'll raise you one: purpose. I see a lot of companies "going social" to spread the word about promotions and advertising, but not necessarily to extend the dialogue in other areas beyond marketing. This makes crisis communications in this space doubly-difficult. Thanks for responding.

Thanks, Jon. Good examples. I'm not sure if the trend is unwelcome...but it is inevitable, I do believe.

It's certainly a more challenging battlefield, nationranch. However, I do think there are some expert philosophies and systems that work well. All is not lost on managing viral/networked situations. Not yet, at least. Thanks for participating.

Thanks, Nancy. I agree with open, honest and ready most times. Yet -- I can think of occaisions when a client can't be completely open or proactive. For example, if a suspect is at large. Or if a big computer hacking situation requires the investigative team to conduct its work without tipping off the hackers that they're being watched. Et cetera.

Indeed, Andrew, we must keep these folks in our thoughts. We must also find a way to be sensitive to their plight, while also offering public-affirming context on nuclear-radiation threats. Tough balance.

The threats are real and scary. The threats are also typically disproportionately feared when compared with other risks.
